All,

Glad to meet all of you. I have been stalking the forum for quite a while now and finally decided today was the day I wanted to contribute. I've learned so much from this forum about my platform and reloading (300RUM) and I want to thank everybody for the information you have provided.

This weekend was the first weekend with my (finally almost complete) 700 in 300RUM. It started as a basic build 700 in 300RUM, then I decided to cerakote it and add a McRees folding stock along with atlas bipod and monopod and a custom brake to manage some of the recoili. I have the blessing of access to a bit of land and the ability to shoot on it as I see fit. I make weekly trips with all the toys and got to stretch the legs of the 700 quite a bit.

Ultimately, I was hoping to post a range report but this happened inbetween shots

I was playing around with my KelTec sub2k while I was allowing the 700s barrel to cool down and experienced a catastrophic failure. Boom in my hands. With my hands shaking for the next half hour, I decided to call it a day with the 700 but documented a bit of the shoot anyway.

Our fancy tactical precision benchrest (aka, tipped over garden trailer) Note the spotting scope on the garden column

Shooting some of our older inventory against the gong at 120yd. You can just barely see the gong past the right fence post - its yellow.

Another beauty shot. The AFG is fantastic for moving the weapon around at the range.

The rest of the day was spent playing around with pistols wagering pints of beer on naked shots to 140yd with our 1911s

I hate running out of ammo

Welcome to the Hide!

I see you are carrying a Dan Wesson CBOB. I have a Valor and it is my favorite 1911. I have considered picking up a CBOB for quite awhile. How many rounds do you have through yours? Reliable I assume?

Very glad to hear you were unharmed when the KelTec went boom. That is every shooter's worst nightmare at the range.

Close. Its a DW Guardian actually so its alloy framed - about 4oz lighter than the CBOBs IIRC. I have at least 2k through the gun and its flawless as long as you clean it regularly. Shooting it dirty, I was still able to hit my 8" gong from 120yd with some constancy which is exceptional for me (Im cross eye dominant so pistols are my weakness). I have yet to have any issues with it although I find it to be picky about ammo. If you do end up buying one, you WILL be impressed by the value although I will say your first mod should be changing out the follower on the CP mags.

The Guardian definitely looks awesome, though I haven't had a chance to handle one. Thanks for the tip on the CP mags.

I found my Valor runs well with the Wilsom Combat mags. I have about 3k rounds through it, zero problems. Only one fail to eject that was a powder-puff load during a load development for 185 XTPs. My valor eats up Zero 230 JHP and RNs all day long. Primarily the JHPs. So far it has also eaten, without issue, Hornady 185 XTP and Berry's 230 RN. My carry ammo is Remington 230gr Golden Sabers (factory ammo) and it works well with those too.

Welcome to the Hide. Good to see you have a nice little collection there.
