I must say, a bit disapointed.* The first 3 shots of the day were almost touching (not pictured), and I was ready to jump up and down, however, the celebration was short lived.* Am I being unrealistic, or should I be expecting better performance out of this rifle?* There was some wind, up to about 10 mph, but I would shoot when none was present and got the same results.

I believe it should be better, the wind could still be affecting it further down range. Also you need a couple thousand rounds to break it in. I was blessed with a CZ that is a 1 whole wonder. A solid rest helps also.

What distance? Wind can be a factor, but break her in a little and see what happens. I woud also try different ammo you rig might not lie that particular ammo. Also shoot from a good rest to get your best results.

100 yards. I only have 150 rounds through it. Also, you guys are right about a stable platform. I'm going to buy a bipod, just have not had the change yet. I'm not expecting sub MOA performance, but 2 MOA would be nice. I actually really like the rifle itself, it looks and feels like a centerfire, which is why I bought it.

Vertically y'er fine. Horizontally, looks like y'er fighting a sloppy fit to the stock.
Shim that receiver and try it again to see if bedding will solve the problem.
The tr is not an accustock, so you'll have to snug it up yourself.

I think you're right about the stock. I'm going to check it out.

You should shoot a whole lot better with that setup. Mine will shoot 1/2 to 3/4 moa at 100 yrds all day. I have confirmed PD kills at 305 yards. The savage will shoot. Break her in a bit more and see what happens. She also may like the 20 gns better than the 17's in the pic. Mine loves 17's and hates 20's. Go figure. Good luck.

he also blows goats but thats a different matter altogether. But his 17 has killed many pdogs. And again many before i could get my cross hairs on them.

definitely should be expecting better. fool around with different ammo and make sure you have a good rest. lead sleds are nice imo, otherwise a pod with sandbags under the butt. good luck, hope you get her shooting like it oughta

I did try some different ammo, not very much, but I did. I'm guessing it was the wind, even though I would shoot when there was just a slight breeze. I'm sure these little pills get thrown around in the slightest breeze.

I have no personal experience with 17HMR, but I had read that this round is pretty susceptible to wind. Hope you get it worked out.

Ah! theres your problem, looks like you were laying on an opened knife. LOL, all joking aside it should be much better. i'd retest at a shorter distance like 50 or 25 (which is the same zero), and try an assortment of ammos. i used a poster board and shot at dots about the size of bottle caps. fwiw i had some ammo give me 3ft groups and most others give me .2 - .5. Also try an indoor range or a day with little to no wind before you condemn the gun. As many have said check the Inch pound tourqe on your screws, id do this before anything major like bedding. might also wanna check that your scope mount; base and rings are tight. perhaps try a gun rest vs that bag to really isolate the rifle if your not 100% confident in your shots.
Unless you have a huge scratch or dent on your crown you should be getting much better results than this
eitherway good luck to ya and i hope you get much better results.

Lol. I used it to cut the paper label holding the ammo closed. I used a torque wrench to install the rings. I have the Level, z levelEaster weekend has been busy, and I was not able to even get the gun out. I'm going to check everything out this week.
