I just got a Rem 700 .223 with a threaded barrel. The end has been turned to a smaller diameter approx 3/4" behind the threads. Is this cut back for a specific supressor? I read somewhere the M24's were having this done for supressor use.
Help anyone?

There might have been an issue with some of the QD mounts requiring that the barrel be turned down a little further back for installation.

I had my 700 barrel turned down behind the threads for my suppressor qd mount. I run the tension mount by Gem Tech for their Quicksand.

A lot of suppressor mounts like surefire require the barrel to be machined down to about .750 behind the threads.

The good thing is that you can now mount any type of suppressor you want without having to smith the barrel.
