Could someone who has used both S&B and Premier comment on how hard the S&B with MTC click are compared to the MTC clicks on the Premier 5-25x56. I have the Premier and am considering 5-25x56 S&B but would like to know how they compare.

With my old Premier Heritage, when I first got it, I had difficulty coming out of the MTC without skipping... in other words, say I tried to dial to 2.1, I'd get to 2 and then it was difficult to get it to 2.1 as it would skip to 2.2 or 2.3 because the MTC detent was really heavy. After a lot running the dial back and forth, I believe the detent calmed down a bit and I didn't have as much difficulty with it.

My new Premier, out of the box, never had a problem with MTC.

My S&B with Locking Turret (my experience is only with the locking turret version and is limited with the non locking) never had a problem and it's been easy to use the MTC.

Having said all that, I feel the Premier turret feel and sound is superior to the S&B. Each click is almost like a clunk. Never have i dialed a turret that is as tactile as the Premier. That's not to say the S&B sucks or anything, it is the a very close second, and if I'd never dialed a Premier, I would not ever believe it could be better, but side by side, it's noticeable.

Ultimately, they both have incredible turrets and I'm certain you'll love either... provided you like the MTC function. Some hate it, I like it personally.

Hope this helps.

I have a S&B 3-20 with MTC with locking turrets and I've messed around with a Premier 5-25 with MTC. I kinda thought the Premier was easier but I think it was because of the size of turrets, the Premiers are a bit bigger/thicker and really fill your hand up (I have smaller hands) so maybe it felt like I had more control. On the other hand, I have smaller hands and to me the S&B turrets feel better OVERALL. My S&B is in mils and the Premier I messed with was in MOA I don't know if that made any difference. That all being said, I didn't feel like it was a big difference/deal breaker and if your looking to change things up I don't think you'll notice too much after you get some time on the S&B. Obviously if your that worried about it, do what you can to get your hands on one and see for yourself but I don't think you'll be disappointed with a S&B ever.

BTW, while I felt the turrets were superior on the Premier... I actually prefer the parallax and magnification rings on the S&B... they are easy to manipulate while being solid and stiff enough that i'm sure they wont turn or move on their own or with a light bump.

The Premier on the other hand, it's stiffer and a bit more difficult to manipulate.

In this respect I think S&B is better.

Glass I felt they are a toss up, I can't really tell much of a difference... but the S&B does have tunneling in the lower mags which is annoying.

Reticles... well thats a very personal thing. :)

You may have one of the older Premiers, before they upgraded the "clickers." I committed to a Premier before their scopes were even in production, so I have an early one. I was never really happy with the turrets until I was sent the upgraded clickers last week. It's a HUGE improvement and one that should be inherent to any Premiers from the last couple of years. I'm sorry to post this without having set hands on a S&B, but I can say that my Premier turrets are only rivaled by my USO. Bottom line: If you're considering a Premier, the turrets should definitely not dissuade you. I've had my hands on most of the the popular scopes, less S&B and Hensoldt. I just can't bring myself to spend $3000+ on a scope.

I would go with S&B, but would opt for the 5-25 with the old DT turrets, which I much prefer. Many reports here on the MTC turrets not functioning well, at least when they were first released. That being said, decided to order the new Nightforce BEAST. I hope it meets my expectations.

I have owned them both - first a Premier woth the old turrets (not the best), then a Premier with the newer turrets (awesome), them a S&B with the locking MTC (great), then a S&B without the MTC (liked it but I actually missed my MTC), and then back to a S&B with the locking MTC turrets.

Like what has been said before, I REALLY like Premier's MTC! Their turrets are extremely tactile, feature crisp and distinct clicks, and were very easy to accurately dial 0.1 passed the large detects. With the larger diameter turrets (than the S&B), you get more rotation distance per click on the OD, and are therefore able to more easily hit/feel/verify that you've dialed to your desired mark.

With that being said, you'll notice that once I made the switch from Premier to S&B, I didn't go back the other way. Both are great scopes. Both offer some good reticles. Both scopes are clear, crisp, and worth the money IMO. I am not opposed to owning another Premier down the road - but for me (only capable of owning one scope at the moment) chose the S&B with locking MTC turrets.

Hope that helps.

I owned an early Premier 5-25x56 and now have an S&B 3-20x50 with MTC,... There is a slight difference; Premier's MTC seemed to be more definitive when hitting a full mil-radian, but the S&B MTC clicks are still quite noticeable when turning. Both work just fine and it isn't a deal breaker either way,.. at least in my opinion. You'll be quite happy adding an S&B to your arsenal,...
