Opinions on a 338 magnum in a AR10 sized platform? It would be apx 300-350fps slower than a 338 Lapua with the same length barrel. A 20" barrel would push a 200gr to apx 2850fps, 250 gr to apx 2600. Apx the same performance as a 338 win mag.

Sounds cool, though the 338 federal is already around in the AR10 platform and probably accomplishes most things a non-308 should. I really like the idea of pushing the 300 grn match bullets at 1050 fps suppressed. Are you talking about a whole new wildcat cartridge? Like a 338 WSM?

There's a 338LM prototype being tested right now should be out by September - Alexander Arms bought the mill rights - no BS - mag fed - AR platform - semi auto - est msrp @ 3500 - came straight from a engineer for FN in South Carolina -

That sounds cool! Isn't there already a semi 338 lapua called the norma bad news? What would be different with this platform?

Not too sure about the .338 but look up NEMO Arms they have developed a .300 win mag AR. They have been testing it with the Military Tier 1 units. The video has the shooters producing sub-moa groups out to 1000 yards. It really looks promising.

Not completely sure what their differences are just thought I would share info given to me - definately going to ask him tmara morning tho -

The 338 lapua semi autos start around $4500, some are close to $10k. The 338 fed is pretty slow compared to a 338Ruger CM. I'm just talking about a $1000-$1500 338. Swap the barrel on a AR10 or DPMS and go shoot. The biggest problem with the magnum ARs is no one makes extractors. That is the detail that must be worked out before hand to make sure they will function like they should.

The rifle isn't built on the AR platform. It is more like the DP28 light machinegun.

It's good to see someone else from Purdue. I grew up there and attended school there.

as much as this would be bad ass and all....... and trust me I would love to have a semi .338 and even a 50bmg... the ammo / reloading expense $$$$ would be too much for me to even enjoy the rifle. main reason why I keep sticking with .308 and .223.... even in comparison to .260...... don't get me wrong,,,, I WOULD love to have a .260 semi and is my dream gun, but I just get the feeling availability of components and $$$ wouldn't meet my demands with how much I shoot my semi autos. Just another reason why I keep falling back to my .223 for target shooting up to 500yards as it is so damn cheap to shoot. but if you have the money to burn, then WTF man, go for it!!!
