I have an unfired #4 Mk 2 dated 1953 that I am looking at converting to a sniper with a reproduction mount and scope.

I also happen to have an orignal 91/30 PE sidemount with plugged holes in beatifull condition with pristine bore,

Who is a good enfield smith that could make the conversion and do it right?

Not sure which one I want to convert, but it will be only one.

Give me your thoughts and recommendations,.

Brain Dick LTD.

But if you have an unfired '53 Mk2 it's value ($1000) is more then if you found an original T less scope or about $1K. Find an earlier '43 or '44 Mk!* in the $400 range if your going chop and cut.

Price-wise, the 91/30 is the better bet. I want to find a n ex-PE and restore it too. I've done two PUs now and want to add the PE to my collection of shooters.

Hmmmmm? Not real sure about that. Apples and oranges are both round but not the same. Plus a complete original Pu 91/30 is only $600 from the distributor at this time. Just a little less than if you build one your self today.

I was talking about your question as to whether to go with the PE or the #4 Mk2 - not PU vs PE.

My question?

I have both so I have no question. One is this and one is that. I believe my point was to find a more common and more correct '43 or '44 and not destroy an unfired '53 Mk2 worth a $1000 so it'd not higher math.

A fake T is a fake T. Don't do it! Scope less T's run $500-$800USD. The No 32 scope can run over $2,000 and still need a rebuild.

A new wrapped Enfield brings $800-$1,200. Unwrapped $400-$800. Hit the fun shows in VA and Pa. Lots of "Scope Less T's " are floating around the East Coast thanks to Springfield Sporters. Cost was $180 in the late 90's.

Here is a "real" scope less put together $4995
Military Firearms CR BSA MK 1T

Good luck building one cheaper!

Pardon my ignorance, but my field of knowledge does not include Enfields. What does "less" stand for?

Reproduction No4T built using FTR'd '44 dated LB and correct, PL serviced No32 Mk 3 scope:

Total cost...around GBP2,500. About 60% of that cost was for the scope...but that is what a genuine, fully functioning and PL serviced MK3 will cost.

Personally I wanted to avoid the earlier scopes for exactly the same reasons as they evolved to the Mk3 (fragility, hard to zero without three hands etc.)

"Fake"? If purists want to call it that, it's their choice....but I believe a "fake" is only a fake if the intention is to deceive others that it is an original for financial gain.

Would I have chopped an non-fired original No4? Personally, I would not.

All of my repro's have been built using rifles that have been arsenal re-worked/FTR'd.

As with all my clones, it would take about two seconds for anyone with even the most rudimentary of inspections to know this isn't an original.

Less as in less scope and or kit. you can find then any where from unissued to cut and sported. If your building for a shooter and the occasional match like the Trafagar I would lean to a Savage that had been through H&H. They will commonly show less use or be new.
