Sitting outside the new job, was supposed to arrive 8:00 sharp. It is 15 past the hour.. what would you do, go in and act like it isn't late or leave and pretend I decided against the job?

Going to give the poll 15 to develope and give me an idea

Be a man and start working like you and the employer agreed upon. I assume you desired to have this job or at least a job and this was the one you settled on.

Sucks to be late the first day but it is a recoverable mistake as long as you don't continue to repeat it. Apologize and say you underestimated the amount of time to get there, or whatever the case may be.

As a side note, reviewing the results of this poll show the members of this site are more the "traditional American values type" rather than the all too common "entitled to whatever I feel like" type.

I totally thought this was a thread for pregnant girlfriend/wife advice. Anyway, I concur. Get the hell off your phone and get to work.

Go to work but as punishment send me your paycheck for the next 6 months.

Buy a bunch of coffees and bacon sandwiches for your new team and head in.

I think you should go home. Leave that job for someone who is punctual enough to show up on time for their first day of work.

Someone out there really needed that job and didn't get it. They probably needed it enough to arrive a little early and not be on the Hide when they should be working.

You know brother gaslight I want you think how funny this really is. Maybe the person you STOLE that job from would have gotten there early? Maybe he has a family and was sitting at home after the interview hoping and praying to the LJC that he would get that call back - that this one felt different? Maybe he spent the last few dollars he could have used on bills or groceries to fill the car and make the drive to that place for an interview? Maybe yesterday when he sat in church with his loved ones around him as they held hands and sent prayers above - they hoped that he would get a call back.

So while you sit smugly in your car 15min late playing on SnipersHide- think about the guy who did not get that call back and how having the opportunity to show at 8am may have been his only chance. I pray for BOTH of you.

Just tell them your filming of "Bozoman Pawn Stars" finished up a little late. Offer 2% off any pawns and give them all signatures - discounted to $10/ea from your regular $20 rate.

Get to work!

Those fries aren't going to make themselves!!

I have 44 employees and expect that folks will be late on the first day. No harm no foul. I explain our attendance policy and tell them don't be late again or there will be consequences.
Was late for my new job once. Told the boss I thought you said 9:00 am. No harm no foul. Made darn sure I was on time from there on out.

Damn, I want to hear what this guy did. Come on GasLight, can't post up this Q and get all this great advice (loved the bring food suggestion), and then not follow-up letting us know what happened....

So, I took the advice of the poll went in tail tucked. I apologized, and surprisingly it was taken with a fairly non-chalant attitude. I guess they get it a lot, so all was good. Thankfully they must not have smelt the Olde English on me, because they ushered me right into the conference room where I was happy to sleep through 2 hours of 'safety' videos (super glad I was the only one in training). Not bad overall, was a little frustrating to have to drive with some old fart twice my age constantly trying to tell me how to drive... I swear if I hear him say 'slow down son' one more time.

Looking forward to tomorrow, I hope they have donuts in the breakroom...

I have new hires do this to me from time to time, I warn them and we go but if I catch them sleeping in the safety videos or acting like they know it all, it can go to game on pretty quick.

So the old guy got to work before you did and is good enough to warn you about potential issues he sees and you think you know more than him...laffin

wow you sound like a kid who needs to grow the fuck up and quick.

For the love of god did you really ask this? if its a new job why would you want to act like you decide against it. If you did not saying anything or showing up is a punk coward move. So what if your late just get in there and get your lazy ass to work. If your boss understands he will give you tomarrow to show up on time.

WTF! Your late then sleep through training. I hope you're not geting paid. Please give your jod to someong that gives a shit.

Company has a pi$$ poor HR group it appears.

You show up late and sleep through training? Do you feel that went unnoticed? Mgt went through several layers to get you to this point form application to nap time, now they are questioning their decisions.

Sounds like someone likes poking the tiger through the cage.

Whole thing sounds like horse shit. On the outside chance it is straight, unless you shit gold cufflinks, I'd make damn sure you were the first to go once I got caught up on whatever work you were hired for.

I'm seeing many many 'employee of the month' awards in the OP's near future. Good luck on day 2!

Read and comprehend Lowlight's signature line, should get you started in the real world. Good luck with your new job.

You said the job is loading ammo for the Iranian army? I'm glad you work there!

This.

My brother and I work for a large tire company. We both live well with nice homes and lots of toys. Recently the company has started hiring young people with crappy attitudes. They disregard safety standards, build crap tires and have the attitude that the OP does. If you don't want to work, let someone that will shed some sweat have the job.

Really? We haven't had enough of this late to work lazy shit? This thread is like watching Friday the 13th 9. Boring and old. But guess what? People just keep biting don't they?

I guess I just have to laugh.

Keep biting.

Here's a nibble:

How many more do you think you can string along? As many as your co-workers, or should we include the management too? And throw the donuts back their face, and tell 'em not to cheap out! Get the Jam-Buster's... them's betterer! Throw in a few tractor-tires, too.

Next week we'll be talking about an espresso machine.

quit posting on the fucking forum and get your ass inside. tell them you're sorry.

Get your butt inside and punch the time clock. Ask your boss if you can work over 15 minutes to make up for it.

If anyone asks why you were late, tell them with a straight face that your wife wanted to have sex before you left for work and her incredibly hot sister walked in on you and decided she wanted a threesome. No boss will call your house to verify and he'll actually will be jealous. Just don't use this excuse more than once.
