Gunsmithing Muzzle crowning

Is it worth anything aside what you pay for it? I have a Remington with a crowned muzzle, and a Savage without it. The selling point is a more uniform bullet release, I get that. Anyone have one crowned and seen measurable accuracy improvements?
 
They all have crowns. Different types yes. Is one better than the other? A recessed crown is better protected from damage. Benchresters(know for accuracy) use a target crown. Is one or the other better, pretty subjective.
 
I've redone the muzzles on dinged WW2 k98s only and, of course,accuracy improved instantaneously _following Mr. Harold Vaughn's "Rifle Accuracy Facts" book, if a rifle's muzzle is straight/true, the shape of the crowning,recessed or not, don't change his accuracy_

This is a pretty good question and I don't really know what side I stand on any more. I have always been a believer in the protecting the crown, or re-crowning if accuracy died off theory. I think I still am a believer, but check this test out:
