So now that i have decided what would be my new caliber...time to find my custom reamer.

i'm looking for advice and opignion from experienced people.

I have contacted PTG and they told me : .149fb 1°-30 lead
i'm planning to use 130-140 berger vld bullets from a aics magazine.

any imput?

Seems like this cartridge is picking up. I don't have any data yet, but I'm having one built now. IIRC my reamer had a 0.160 FB, not much different than yours (especially with the long neck, not much difference).

I have been a 6mm whore for a while now, but this cartridge is starting to make me think. No fireforming, .243 or .260 brass as an option, and BETTER barrel life, significantly. It get's old setting back barrel's at 1500-2000 rds depending on caliber and how you drive your rig. The question is, how much better barrel life are you gonna get. 3,500-4000 rds is what I've been hearing. ballisticly they are pretty much identical in the wind. The 6.5 gets the edge on big game because of the heavier bullet (140's) while the 6mm (6XC, 6 SLR, 6x47 Lapua) are better comp rounds rounds for high volume low recoil shot strings. Don't know when I will take the plunge on this cartridge, but it's getting close...

I would talk to Dave and take his advice. I have a PTG 6.5 SLR LR/S reamer made in 10/11... The FB listed by Witney is .055 for the LR/S. Based on my OAL with 142 SMK's on a new chamber, I believe this is the same reamer.
One of our barrels at 800 rounds shooting 130 Bergers at ~ .020 off the lands has an OAL of2.860ish..
Another barrel with 140 Hornady 140 HPBT .010 ish off the lands has an OAL of 2.870.... Pushing things for an AICS.. great with AW's.

I would recommend talking to Dave and I would go shorter than the .055... The throat will grow and you will need to chase it a bit.. Consistent and reliable feeding is better than a few FPS...

Good Luck

I have an SLR reamer on order, that should be done in a couple weeks.

I ordered mine with .050" freebore, so that I can cut AR10 magazine friendly chambers.

I also ordered a throating reamer so I can hog it out for bolt actions fed with AW magazines that accomodate 2.950" COAL.

Lastly, I after loading up ~20 dummy cartridges using Winchester brand 243WIN brass, I found most all of the loaded casenecks measured .292", but there were a few .293", an ocassional .294 and even a .295" one. I'm not interested in sorting brass by neck wall thickness, nor am I interested in turning necks, so I respec'd the reamer's neck to .298".
