2 DAYS LEFT: This Target Haunts Me Contest
Tell us about the one that got away, the flier that ruined your group, the zero that drifted, the shot you still see when you close your eyes. Winner will receive a free scope!
I am looking at a heavy varmint contour Krieger 30" for a new build. Is this a good contour for F/Tr or would I be better served waiting on a Palma or Heavy Target?
It really depends on the weight of your rifle. I don't think either will be more accurate than the other. For long barrels the HP is lighter than a varmint.
I'm looking to just barely make weight with the rifle. It's going to be a Savage target action in a SSS competition stock. Should need a barrel very similar to the stock Savage F/TR rifle.
I would try and be about half pound under. I have friends who have driven big distances and tried to play that game to have the range scale not allow them to play.
When I built my current rifle, I got the weight specs for all the components I was planning on using and then worked out the weight of that barrel using Lilja's information. I aimed to be about 8 ounces under weight to account for variations in scales at different venues. There are events where you know they will tech the rifles and it's best to be safe for any eventuality.
