Preparing to buy my first 1911. Right now at the top of my short list is a STI Spartan V. Had a chance to handle one at my local gun shop and I was impressed. Also looked at a Colt, Springfield, and a Kimber. For the $ and the features I walked away strongly considering the Spartan. Any thoughts?

I owned one in 9mm. Put probably 1k rounds through it before selling it. Pretty tough to beat for the money, didn't have a single problem with it.

I have a 9mm STI Trojan I love the gun. Its crazy accurate and I've put probably 2500 to 3000 rounds down range with no malfunctions at all.

Made in the Philippines, (if that matters to you). 1911addicts has a good 1911 buyers guide, in it the praises of the spartan are sung. It's in the top of it's class for sure. I had an sti edge, ran it hard, no major issues.

I have a Spartan 45 acp and it shoots better than I can. I did have some problems with the rear sight it can gain elevation under recoil. For the money it is hard to beat.

I just recently bought one in .45acp and couldn't be happier 450 rounds no problems, other then a grip screw backing out. I'm most likely going to end up with another in 9mm here shortly.

I have recently bought a STI Spartan V and switched the safety to ambidextrous, and then switched the scales to g-10. I could not be happier with the value of this handgun. It is extremely smooth, and accurate for the money. I would strongly recommend one of these.

I had one for a while. I put thousands of rounds through it in USPSA/IDPA/plinking situations and it was a great gun.

The 9mm variant I had echoes the previous responses. Get it, you won't be sorry.

I have been really, really enjoying my STI 9mm 1911. It's well fitted, nicely finished, smooth shooting, and much more accurate than I am. It doesn't love hollow points, but it hasn't gone wrong with ball.

Bought one a few years back. Badass pistol, several thousand rounds and only issues thus far are from people limp-wristing and bad mags. Do it!

I think I'm gonna "pull the trigger" on the Spartan. Thanks for the feedback.

I have been looking at a Spartan as well. Let me know where you get it and how much if you don't mind.

My only drawback is that I have never shot a .45 or a 1911. I don't foresee a problem with either, but I always tell new shooters to shoot a gun first if they can. I figure I need to take my own advice. Would hate to buy it and not like shooting it (if that is even possible).

Good luck, hope you find it for a good price.

Picked it up today from a local gun shop. $700. I felt like I got a fair deal.
