I have a 24" Bartlein 1-11.25 done by GAP and I was wondering what everyone's loads are with the 155 scenars and Varget using Lapua Brass? I've been using 46.6, but lately have been getting some loose primer pockets fairly quickly. It shoots well, just wanted to see where everyone else is at. COAL at 2.815-818

My goto .308 load is 155 Scenar, Wolf LR primer & 46.4 grs. Varget. My 24.5" bbl. yields 2889 fps. I have loaded the brass 6 times or so & no loose primer pockets. Maybe 3 out of a 100 have a little less effort to seat the primer than the others. To me that is just the cost of doing business.

Savage with 26" CBI:

45.5gr - 2885fps
47gr - 2970fps

I practice with 45.5 but if I'm bringing the 308 to a match I run 47.0

The 155 scenar at 2970 really gives the 308 a new lease on life. WAAAAY better than a 175smk @ 2650-2700.

Going over 46.0gr. the pressure is getting up there and actually your probably starting to exceed the max. I won't run over 46.0 with a 155 and Varget. When loading for a new gun/barrel I approach the 46.0 with caution. My current .308win. my everyday working load is 45.0.

Just because you don't get a heavy bolt lift, or loose primer pockets or flat primers etc...doesn't mean your not at the max. pressure.

Depending on the barrels bore and groove size, chamber specs. etc...which all can effect the pressures I say anthing 46 and heavier with Varget is most of the time exceeding max. pressure.

My .02.

Alan, I've got the same rig and I found that 45.5 was the sweet spot. My rifle only has a 22" though but I was running them at 2840. Anywhere past that I lost accuracy and got pressure signs. Coal was 2.819 can't remember ogive reading. They shot as good as anything I've put through it

I've got a GAP built AR10 with 21" Schneider 1:11.25 poly barrel and 45.5 is where I'll likely stay to preserve brass. This in Win brass is in the lower 2700's, about 1.5gr less in Lake City brass. Either, very accurate.

Switched to 2000 MR and really like the way it meters and shoots. 49gr puts me at 2860fps, sub-moa.

I've given up on trying to make my brass last longer than 4 or 5 loadings for the LR-308. Loose primer pockets is usually the culprit. It's just that the gas gun beats the shit out of brass. In my opinion this is the main reason you get what you are getting.
Maybe closer to minimum powder charges would make a difference? I know I should explore that sooner or later.
