I compared mine to some new in the box ones and found the only difference in mine were the color of the copper. The blems seem to be lighter n color.
I bought a bunch of blems in various calibers and all of them seem to be just color. I have 1k .264 140gr Amax coming in today and I am hoping color is the issue as well. Saved me $100 on 1k bullets.
Did you check the weight. I've seen blems that were off by a couple of tenths. Mine should be in this week and I'll load some.
With Hornady you'll find firsts that are a couple of tenths off. Same can be said of most of the manufacturers firsts.
I called hornady and the tech support said they are either the first run in the press or cosmetically blemished in some way... He said they still have to meet the same weight standards as the regular ones in order to be sold as seconds/blems because of safety issues.
Shot some in my SPSS and Classic stocked rifles last year, once I got the load figured out and seating depth they shot pretty good, every once in awhile Id have a weird flyer if I remember correctly.
