I'm getting parts for a 6.5CM build which will be for hunting/target/mild-noob competition stuff. This is my first custom build and will probably have Phoenix Custom Rifles
build it. I ordered a 26" Bartlein, have Defiance bottom metal and will probably go with a Manners stock (T, T6 or EH4 to keep weight down) and Bushnell ERS G2 scope.

I'd like to hear pros/cons on triggers for a Defiance Deviant action I just ordered. Norm recommended Timney or Jewell and said Jewells seemed to just drop in better.
What do you guys like or hate. There's several different Jewells...how do I figure out which one to invest in (obviously I want a safety on it).

Thank you and I will continue researching for info on here also.

There's nothing special about the deviant in terms of what trigger works best. Any Rem 700 should be fine. I like the Jackson 2 stage triggers best.

Thanks guys. I wasn't sure if there was some quirk with my components as a whole. I knew all R700 stuff should work but had read that some Timney's were a little "fat" so to speak.

I have heard best to run the 510-u on deviant. Just what I heard and there is a discussion on the hide some place.

Not on a Deviant but I'm using them on a Rebel and Rem 700's...great triggers!

I am having a Defiance Deviant action built right now. The guys from Defiance prefer to use the Timney triggers with the "u" series sear. If you order from Timney they will put one in for you for no additional charge.

Mine will have a 518u. Its a left handed straight trigger with the "U" sear. The sear is not in a U shape its just a designation.

Thanks LongArm...this is what I was looking for.

I would go with the Jewel as well.

I got pissed at my Jewel for awhile I was in a match and during the middle of a stage in a wash course I was shooting off of a culvert in a "run and gun" stage. I had just crawled through the culvert and set up on the next one to take a shot (timer running) I got on target and squeeeeeezed....nothing, in a timer induced moment of retardation, I came off the gun....looked at it and then without getting back behind the glass I reached down and touched the trigger to "see if it would go"....it did. Although the rifle was still pointed down range I took a DQ from the match.

I had read that they were picky about getting dirt and crud in them so I was convinced that I no longer liked the Jewel even though that was my one and only issue. I switched over to a Timney for my next build, both for that issue and the Timney was cheaper. I never could get the Timney to run as smooth, and definitely not as light as the Jewel, I have felt other guys triggers who had the exact same trigger as mine who works awesome, but I have also shot several of my buddies' rifles who couldn't get them to run on their rifles either, I just put a Jewel back on mine.

Sorry if this seemed rambling, but that is my $.02 on triggers and a word to the wise on not having a dumb-ass attack in the middle of a stage at a match! :) My fault not the trigger's...it did mind fuck me when it was dead the first time though, with the timer running! :)

In 700's I have had Shilens, 1 Jewell, a couple Timneys and a Extreme.

If you like 2 stage get the Extreme. If you want to clean it all the time get a Jewell.

If you are human and don't want to have to worry about BS in the trigger get a Timney.

I just had a tube gun built with a Mutant action. I went with a CG Extreme 2-Stage. Cleanest trigger I have used. Even smoother than my Jewells. Works just fine in my Defiance action. Should not be affected my dirt as many of the new military sniper rifles are being outfitted with them. They do cost a pretty penny though.

I've used Timney triggers before. They were fine, not great, but I did not like the wide shoe.

I use Shilen triggers on most of my other rifles because of the narrow shoe. They feel damn near like a Jewell, but for less than half the price.

I have a Huber 2-stage on my practice rifle to feel like my CG and have a safety. Very nice trigger.

Sorry for the rambling, just giving my experience with triggers. The only one I have experience with in a Defiance is the CG and I could not be happier.

a little update, I attempted to put a cg jackson extreme trigger on mine but it would not cock the firing pin. no matter what. I sold it but now want another. This was on an early deviant action. any ideas?

Jewel Triggers all the way. Why not???

I really like the CGX trigger, but a downside is they are a big pain to get set up properly.

You'll just have to play with it, familiarize yourself with exactly how it works, and use your mad problem solving skilz to get it working tip top.

If disassembling, testing and tuning isn't your forte, the CGX is probably not for you.

I put a Timney in two of my Rifles and thought I loved them.

Last year I had Bugholes build me a Rifle and I was going to put a Timney in that one also. I was talking to my buddy and he suggested a two stage Huber. I him hawed around on it for a bit and then told Bugholes I wanted a Huber. He suggested a CG Extreme and I love that trigger. In a few months I going to buy another CG and put it in my Coyote Rifle.

My Jewel has worn out two 308 and a 260 barrel, give it slight bit of overtravel, lighter fluid bath every 500 rounds and once a year take it apart and detail clean it, keep it clean, and it will give years of reliable service, neglect it and it will screw you, my new tube chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor is almost half done, I am planning on retiring my Jewel soon, a Timney Calvin Elite is in my future

Has anyone actually run one on a defiance deviant action?

Yes. I use a Jewell 700 HVR on my Defiant Deviant SA. This one REMINGTON 700/40X & WIN M70 RIFLE TRIGGERS | Brownells

I run a 6.5x47 Lapua 22" Bartlein HV, McMillion A5, Badger M5, NF F1. I did no load development. 120 Scenar L over Varget, shooting .1-.2's....

I just built a 338 Lapua on a Deviant, I'll probably use the same trigger

Hey chipsfan, if you don't mind me asking, what kind of velocity are you getting with that 22in. barrel on a 6.5 Lapua???

120 scenar L over varget. Cci 450. 2884 when it was brand new. I think it sped up a bit. Longest range around here is 600 yards and I might go to 800-850 once a year so it's a great load for me.
