Just picked up a JP LRP07 308 and need some glass. I'd like to get out to 800 yards but also want close quarter capability. I was thinking of a Nightforce 2.5-10X32 NXS compact scope. What do you AR10 owners think, thanks for the advice.

My LMT wore a nf 2.5-10 and I used it for basicly the same purpose. Hog hunting close range and 750 yard steel banging. Performed great. Used a nf unimount (1.125) for rings. The only reason I moved it was because I have scope ADD and have to fiddle with stuff. Now it's on a tikka hunting rig.

The Nightforce is held in high reguard for that type of role, it is tried and true. For my future Ar10 build, I'm lusting after the IOR Spartan: IOR 2-12x36 Spartan Tactical 35mm Rifle Scope
I love the reticle and mag range... I haven't gotten to look through one yet,but the glass supposedly rocks. The new vortex 2.5-10x32 is getting great reviews so far, for a cheaper alternative. Also, the new SS 3-15 would seem like a good cheaper option too.

Yeah that IOR Spartan was one I was mulling over a lot and it was my top choice till I changed my mind. Went with a 1-6 in FFP because how the reticle works. My LR-308 is more like a battle rifle to me. I wanted that cqb type reticle at 1x in the SS 1-6. And on 6x there are the milling hash marks. I'm pretty happy with it but I'd want more power for the longer distances. Longer distances just aren't in my world, though.

Price range? There are a growing number of scope options that will get you from up close to 800yds. Also, what is more important, close quarters or long range? As with most things, there will be trade offs...

My LRP-07H has a US Optic 5-25 and a short-range tactical sight (SRTS). Allows me to see real good out to distance and still have CQB capability.

I just ordered a NightForce NSX 3-15x50 with M.O.A.R. reticle for the same rifle based on the reco from NightForce and other buddies...can't wait.

I have a US Optics 1.8-10 for my obr and I would look at the new 1-8 US Optics or IOR 1-10 for what you are looking for. I have no experience specifically with either but I wouldn't want any CQB Optic more than 1x. What is more important to you, CQB or longer range?

5x power minimum mag on a LR, well I guess a side mounted red dot may be in order now.

Too bad Rothchild didn't chime in sooner about the us optics 1-8 for you. That would be my ultimate choice for mine if I could afford that one. Sorry I didn't think about it for you my last post here.

Anyway, awesome choice on the JP. I went with them for my barrel, BCG, gas block and trigger too. Good stuff.

I am running a NF 3.5-15x50 with an Aadland mount. I shoot more at plates and groups and have no need for the CQB aspect with mine. If I chose to go that way, I can always use an angle mount with a red dot. Or you can use say a Bobro mount and change between scope and red dot depending on your need / want .

I have the NF 2.5-10x32 on a 5.56 gun and love it. Being in NJ I don't get to shoot as far as you are looking to do, but I can not imagine the scope having a hard time allowing you to do so.

3-15 may be even better and gives you the option of going to FFP with NF if you want that.

^ Yeah, even the new SWFA 3-15. Save you a ton of money for what should be a very decent option for the money.

I just mounted and zeroed my new NF 2.5-10x on Monday. I could not be happier with my choice. It's sitting on my 16" Knights, it's a perfect fit.

I had a chance to compare to my buddy's sfp Vortex 2.5-10x, I was not impressed with the Vortex. Though when I had the chance to check out the Ffp Vortex at SHOT, it did look much better. If it were my choice I would not hesitate on the NF.

Good luck,
George

I just put a Nightforce on my rig.....it is wonderful....I have owned several high end scopes IOR ,US optics,Leupold Mark 4 ,Zeiss ,Trijicon ACOG ...and I have to say this is my favorite..a word of advice for someone shopping around don't go cheap on your glass ....

One more thing ....I saw someone post about a SWFA super sniper....he is right it is a great scope for the money ...if you haven't noticed by reading my first post I am a bit of a glass fanatic
