Due to work Im about to move to a new country of crap gun laws and as such I have to pay yearly fees and taxes and get a licence for every gun I own. And if its a centerfire damn Im gonna get raped on legal fees. But on the plus side I can have as many uppers/different calibers I want so long as its still only 1 gun and not have to pay any extra or get licenced etc.

In other words.... if I get robbed... the bad guys effectively only got 1 working gun.

And if the gun starts out life as a rimfire well then all the better as far as paperwork, red-tape, ass kissing, tax and legal fees goes.

So what semi pistol should I be looking at. I think I could live with one that goes from 22lr to 9mm only....but I was thinking it might be nice if there was a pistol out there that lets you cycle through a load of different calibers.

sig 226.

mine started out as a 9mm, i bought the 22LR exchange kit.

you can also get an exchange kit for 40 and 357sig. i do not have these though.

Glock 22 or 23. Can do .40/.357 Sig/9mm with different barrels and appropriate mags. Then can run a .22 Slide Conversion.

Id love a glock, but a glock starts life as a centerfire.... so thats gonna cost a lot of $$$ on tax every year :( It needs to start life as a 22lr and then buy the slides seperately to keep my wallet (and missus) happy.

1911/2011:
22lr, 9mm, .40, .45, .38 super

all with one frame.

ps, which country? sounds almost as bad as mine. (We can own up to 5 guns, but as many conversion kits as we like, and new shooters need to start with rimfire since a couple of months)

Sig had the p250 also that offers interchange of barrels, slides and even grips just keeping the "Fire control unit" as the "Gun". 9,40,45,357 sig, but not 22.

P250 Full Size

Or the Sig 226 that you can start as a 22 and as mentioned get 9/40/357
P226 Classic 22

One gunsmith, retired now, I dealt with had a briefcase for his one 1911, inside he had the frame and slides/barrels for .22, 9mm, 9x21, 9x23, 9x25, .38 super, .38 special, .40, 10mm and of course .45 making it a 10 caliber kit.

I've never shot one but would think the P250 would be a good choice not only for caliber conversion but also being able to go from a compact to a full size gun as well.

Do any of them start as rimfire that are convertable? I might be wrong but I thought it was centerfire then rimfire with a conversion.
Most of the 1911 .22 builds I know of have an aluminium frame, but depending on his country he could go for a semi-custom built .22 1911. Same with glock, plenty of frames on the market.

Thus blows my answer out the door! But if you dont mind single shot, the Thompson Contender will have as many caliber as you are willing to pay!
