Anyone using this combo? I cannot find ANY load info for this combo. 308 win. I was thinking of starting at 46gr and working up. I'll have to experiment where my rifle likes the bullets seated but I guess that's part of the fun right? Thanks for any info!

Assuming you are talking about 308win. if I were you I would start a little lower than that. I have never used the SST's but my rifle loves the 178g Amax with 47g 2000mr. But with my ex. with PP2000mr pressure builds very fast from safe to BAM! big time pressure signs.

Crap I forgot to put 308 in there lol.. thank you. I will take your suggestion. I came up with 46 gr as it seems most people are settling in right at the 49-50 grain level with 178's and such. I'll back it down to 44.5 or so, thanks.

That might be a little drastic, 46.5grs is as low as I would go, I never got any pressure signs up to 47.5grs with the 178.

Shooter98,

That is my hunting combo...

LC brass trimmed to 2.00"
Winchester Large Rifle primer
47.5gr 2000MR
2.82" COAL

This shoots one hole groups from my DPMS LR-308.

Excellent, thank you. I'll try a few.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the info. I worked up 25 rounds yesterday, and I will do a test tomorrow to see which one my gun likes.

Ok so stupid question time. These are the first bullets I've ever loaded that have canalures (sp?) and with 46.5 gr's of 2000MR, it almost seems like this is a compressed load with the bullet seated to 2.80 coal and the canalures aren't even at the case neck yet. You guys that are using this combo, are you getting the same results? 308.jpgAny thoughts?

I've pretty much answered my own question lol... Seems I can pretty much ignore the cannalures.

Id have seated them to 2.825". Yur using lapua brass, right? That should be a good/great load.

So I shot 15 rounds today, and can't really say I was overly impressed. So, my scope was zeroed for the 147gr fmj's I've been shooting, yes I knew they wouldn't hit the same spot, and at 100,300,500 meters ALL 3 different stages shot low left. My 3 stages were 5 shots of 46gr, 5 shots 46.5gr, and 5 shots 46.9gr. Granted I was shooting off a bipod without proper rear support, but the 147's were tagging the target spot on all morning. At 100 meters the shots were very poorly grouped at the 7 O'clock position about 6" off center with the 46 gr, and they did get a bit better as I shot up to the 46.9gr. I need to get a chrono, and properly support my rifle to see what's exactly going on. Surprisingly, the best grouping I had was at 500 meters, with the 46.9gr they were all low left about a foot off of p.o.a. but decently grouped.

Also, what's your guys' take on PMC brass? I got a bunch handed to me yesterday from a shooting buddy.

I think you need more powder in them cases, 2000MR likes more pressure to shoot better. Try 47.1 & 47.4grs. and seat those SSTs out to 2.825". Here's how 47.3grs in Rem brass shoots with the 178s. Rem brass holds a small amount less than Win brass.
Oh, this was shot at 200yds, btw. Oal was 2.825 to fit the rem action magazine BDL type.

I shoot the 185 Berger vld with 46.8 on lapua brass. Fgm210m at 2.825 coal. Don't have the ogive measurement on me. It's out of a gap crusader .308 and it's sheer hell on deer. My ftr load is 48.0 same brass ECT... With a 175 smk. 2.236 to ogive. 2770 fps and a tack driver. No op .... Sticky bolt ... None. I worked this load up in the Summer so it's safe. Just food for thought

Alright guys, so I loaded up some @ 47.0 and 47.2 grains and had great results. Apparently this powder likes to be loaded a little compressed? I only say that because at 47.0 grains the powder is sitting up high enough that the bullet just starts to push into it @ 2.825". I am working on getting some bags so I can get the rifle properly supported so I can get some accurate range data. Thanks again for everyone's help. Mike.
