Hello all!

Just another person interested in some long range shooting.

I'd say my most capable rifle would be the ArmaLite AR50-A1B. I'm looking to get some other rifles to reach out there with in the near future as well.

I hope to learn from the more experienced membership here on long range shooting and even building some rifles. My first build will be the Mega Maten 308 I have ordered (been ordered since Dec 2, 2012); it should be getting here soon!

Look forward to learning from y'all!

Welcome to the Hide, John. Where in TN are you? I will be back there in a couple weeks.

I'm in Murfreesboro for 2 more months and then I'll be moving back closer to Nashville.

I shoot the AR50 at Terry's range in Manchester, TN.

I'll see if I can post his card to that range from my phone of this forum has Tapatalk.

I have been to Manchester before a long time ago. I live in Clarksville.

So where do you guys shoot? Is there anyplace that goes out farther than 330 yards around here?

welcome. My sister and no-good brother in law lived in murfreesboro. This is really a fantastic forum. I am on a lot of them and the attributes of the people on this one is far superior. Respectful (most of the time), knowledgeable, and interested in helping. They also try everything they can to perpetuate the sport.

Welcome aboard! Great crew here on the 'Hide. Good to have you here.

It is on the far side of Nashvegas from you by about 20 miles but the Montgomery County Shooting Complex The Montgomery County Shooting Complex | Range Options and Pricing is nice and goes out to 400 yards.

Only place I have shot recently is at a friends private land and can get out past 600 yards there.

Does your friend need more friends? I will up the value of his land by depositing natural resources in to the soil; lead, copper, and some brass!

When we get back from our excursions I will see if he is cool with me bringing guests. He is not uptight so will probably not be a problem but no promises. Is up in KY by Hopkinsville so don't know if you are ok with driving that far.

I've not shot out past 330 yards, so I think it would be worth the trip.

I'd just need to check out KY laws and make sure my 50 BMG is legal to drive over the border with a can of API's. LOL

You better not be plotting to shoot my steel with API. Heeeeck no. ;)

If you have a .50 we definitely need to get you out further than 330 yards. Not even worth shooting that thing so close.

Heck even M33 ball has a core, but not sure what its made of. At least if the pics I seen are right.

What would I need, the A-Max? I know from videos I seen, it doesn't go through AR500 steel. Never shot it before, suppose I can get some.

I have a SWFA SS 20x42 MRAD on it for now, so hope that will do!

All bullets have a core. Big difference though between soft lead cores versus a tungsten carbide penetrator with an incendiary mix.

We can figure out something to use, but it probably won't be my brand new steel.

I wouldn't shoot up your steel targets

I've already shot I-Beam and it went through that and tube steel. lol

Here I am taking the shot. The target is all the way down in front of the tree line.

The tube was as wide as my fingernail. I had it sitting on wood in front of the big I beam fwiw.

Arnold afb has 1km ranges. A club from Huntsville(blue and gray rifle and pistol club) runs matches there. Anybody can shoot, don't have to be a member. Bgrpc.org is their website, check the calendar for dates.

And so it begins... 5 months later and I finally got my Mega Maten!!!!

Should make for a nice AR. I am back in TN now and trying to get out shooting within the next few weeks.

Keep me posted. If I'm not working (got to move this month, too), we'll get together and send some 50 BMG down range! I need to find some kind of steel targets; makes the incendiary go off and that's always more fun when you have a flash/report down range!
