I tried checking the Savage website but this rifle isn't even listed, the nearest thing to it is the 10 FP-SR. Anyways...Gun shop had a Savage 10TR .308 20" Threaded/capped barrel & a detachable flush mount 4rd magazine for $460 - I was going to buy it, but after looking at it, it appears Savage moved the bolt release to down in front of the trigger guard? So has anyone tried dropping one of these into an AICS or other aftermarket Savage 10FP stock? If the dang bolt release is going to limit my aftermarket stock options I'll have to find something else.

right now there aren't too many aftermarket stocks that will accomodate the bottom bolt release. you're better off finding one with the bolt release up top! it's easier to use also.
    good luck on your decision!

I'm just glad someone is having the same problem as I am. I ran into this rifle the Savage TR on gun buying club's website a couple weeks ago. I have been unable to find anything about this rifle. There aren't even any pictures of it when I googled it. Can you tell me anything about it? By the way, gun buying club has it for $401 I think. Thanks in advance.

Sounds more like a 10PC-SR... AccuSport got a batch of the 10PCs done with fluted barrel and threaded muzzle, digicam Accustock, 4rd DBM and the bottom bolt release. There basically *no* aftermarket stocks that I'm aware of that will accommodate that bolt-release.

Sometimes when a large distributor gets a special run made per their request/specs, it may not be exactly a 'catalog' item.

If thats true - that XLR chassis work with the bottom bolt release actions... I may be saving some pennies up for one, because that skinny AccuStock is hard for me (@ 6'4") to get comfy behind. I've got a stock pack to raise the cheek rest and a 1" LimbSavr to extend the LOP... but its still hard to get it to shoot well as consistently as I think it's capable of.

the fcp-k's have longer barrels (I believe 24").

Mine has bottom bolt relese and works fine with manners and cdi makes a bottom metal that works with it as well

Bought one of these last week. Nice weapon for the money. I am also looking for an aftermarket stock to replace the factory plastic but will shoot it as is until I am able to come up with something nice.

I am HIGHLY interested in this rifle, but have struck out finding one on the interwebs.

I called Savage yesterday and was told models 19984 (20") and 19983 (24") are law enforcement only rifles, and not for sale to the general public.

    ????

Asked my LGS that does a lot of LE sales if they could order it for me, and was told no because they are not a Savage LE dealer.

You can definitely purchase the rifles without being an officer. They are for sale to the general public all the time.

A gun shop locally has an interesting model Savage similar to what you described. I asked about it because had never seen one like it before and they told me that Savage does a lot of special limited production runs pieced together with different part combinations than their normal production rifles. Not sure how much truth there is to it but they have always seemed knowledgeable in the past.

The 10 TR is a 5R barreled rifle, 20 or 24 length, sold to LE/Govt officers only. Doing it so
LE officers can get a really nice rifle at a nice price. If you get one otherwise,
please keep quiet about it. Savage will discontinue the product. I think what they are doing
    is great for officers.

    No info on Savages website.

The Model 10 precision carbine is the 20 inch threaded barrel digital camo accustock.

Here is the 10 TR. Has a different bolt handle, different accustock. The stock has a wider forearm than the 10 Precision Carbine.

The 10 Precision carbine stock is slimmer on the forearm, has a fat knob on the bolt handle and a standard medium heavy barrel that is threaded.

Here is a 308 Model 10 FCP-SR in a Mcmillan. Not on the website either. At my house though.
Perfect combo, weight, length, barrel profile, etc,

I recently saw this gun at LGS and could find nothing about it on the Savage site. It's nice that it comes with a TB and a rail and Accustock. Price was $525 though. Didn't notice the bolt release. Definitely cheaper than the Model 10 FP-SR with TB I recently bought with no rail or Accustock. I had thought about selling the FP-SR and buying the Model 10 TR but the different bolt release has me rethinking this idea. Sounds like LGS has it over priced even though it's $150 cheaper than the FP-SR. I do like the box mag and different bolt handle though. Can't find one for sale anywhere else and this LGS is always on the high side.

I just bought a model 10FP-SR from our local shop and it did not have a rail or accustock. It has a detachable magazine and heavy barrel that measures 18". It has the same bolt handle as the picture. It is a neat rifle.

    That's actually a 10P-SR...another special model. There's also a 20" unthreaded 10P...

    What'd ya give for it?

It seems Savage has all kinds of tricks up their sleeve. I went back and looked at the 10 TR and saw the bottom bolt release. I played with it for 5 min and couldn't get the bolt out. I'll stick with my 10 FP_SR even though it doesn't have an Accustock or box mag. Does Savage sell the Accustock separately? I can't find it in their catalog or web site. I would like to have that rail also.

    Scimitar,

Can you post more pics of the magazine area and of the new bottom bolt release? I'm curious if the mag area is just like that of the precision carbine, and if you can get 5 or 10 rd mags for it.

SSS has 10 round magazines for the metal bottom DBM, and Ratmag has 10 and 12 round for the plastic bottom DBM

I've got a savage 10-sr and it has the bottom bolt release. It works in my HS stock. The bolt release is a part of the trigger guard. While I agree that I don't like it as much, it definitely does work with after market stocks.

Thanks to you all for the solid info on this rifle...just picked my 10TR today. Very nice and a tremendous value. My scope base wasn't in box but called Savage and they're mailing it out. Looking forward to getting into the LR game with this.

Fwiw, a local shop nearby me, has a couple of Savage .308's in McMillan stocks. They said they were straight from Savage, special run of guns. The stock aftermarket costs about 600 bucks and their selling it with the savage 308 giddyup for just a little more than the accustock version. Anyhow, nice new TR you got there.

    Hey guys,

Savage looks like a rifle now :)
Scope mounted, harris with podloc on place, cheek pad, muzzle brake (what a difference!), some spare magazines

I will try to make some rifle pictures again...

So far my best shooting - 200 metres (~219 yards), Sako 168grs Sierra HPBT:

Nice groups Starosta. How about a pic of your setup? Mine is still a WIP but its coming along. I love the 10TR, so glad I found it. This kind of accuracy at the price, just cant be beat.

Just picked up a Savage "10T" at Cabela's a couple weeks ago ($599 :( ). It does have the same larger bolt knob but no threaded barrel (must be what the "R" stands for). Also I'm pretty sure it also has a 24" barrel. No rail, but I too called Savage and they are sending me a rail for free.

Has the 5R rifling been confirmed?

I'll post pictures once I get a scope for it.

Very nice Starosta. Hope mine turns out as nice. Got a Vortex PST 6-24 to go on top, still trying to decide on bipod.

Loves....congrats on the score. I could be mistaken but I think most all Savages have gone to 5R. If you call Savage with s/n they will confirm it.

Nutro: These are LOW version - that's 1/4" from the top of the base to the bottom of the tube (according the Burris description, haven't measured it on my own).

McMillans inlets their stocks for the Savage DBM's with the bottom bolt release. Bolt release works much like the top side bolt release, pull the trigger, pull back on the bottom bolt release button and remove the bolt.

What stock is that deep looks like a b&c but can't tell. And does that rifle have a dbm. I have a savage 12 lrp and have been looking for a new stock for it. I like that one.

Manners Custom Stocks has stocks for bottom bolt release rifles. And can do that for lefties also. McMillan also has some stocks that are for the bottom bolt release.

Correct. Its a "Bell and Carlson Medalist Varmint Tactical". It doesnt have a dbm, but I tossed around the idea of doing it when I put the package together. I decided it wasnt really worth it for my intended usage to have a dbm, but who knows what Ill do in the future.

Thanks Ring for that link, nice write up. I hope that was incorrect info though re: Savage discontinuing this rifle. I understood this rife was meant for LEO and thus the full features and absurdly low price. What will we, I mean cops do now? :)

Heya deep i have a savage 12 lrp same acction you have there but B&C said the dont make a stock that fits it. what did you do to get that savage to fit?

The Bell & Carlson 2997 should fit the 12LRP as it is a top bolt release action; the issue, however, is that the stock is inletted for a blind magazine and not DBM.

You would have to send the stock out to be inletted for DBM (a CDI Precision inlet works perfectly for Savage factory DBM) or buy the parts to run it as a blind magazine rifle (magazine, follower, L-clip and trigger guard...I *think*).

Why would you want to replace the 12LRP's HS Precision stock with a Bell & Carlson, though?

Thanks for the info deep and boiler. My hands are smaller and the hs precision stock grip is large i dont like it.
