Well I finally stretched my rifle past the 1400yd mark. We were hog hunting on Sunday night and the weather was good for long range stuff. So we decided in the morning that we would set up a Target @ 1800yds (from one box blind to another) measured with Range finder and GPS. The wind was starting to get a little gusty but figured I would give it a try. I put in the weather and came up with 24mils to the target and dialed 4 mils of wind. My HDMR had 23.5 mils of travel left so I dial that and made a shot. But of course I dialed the wind in the wrong direction. I fixed that and sent a few more and corrected. I ended up with 25mils Elevation and 4.5mils of wind. I missed the target left to right a few times and finally connected on one. I only had about 15 rounds to play. Wasn't able to get a group but figured I would share it.

My rifle specs
Rem 700
26" Rock 1-8.5 twist
Templar Tactical Suppressor
7mm-08
162 amax
2770fps

That's great man! Love pushing the smaller calibers out where they should not be.

I am running a 162 @ about that same velocity out of a 7 Creedmore, and have been wanting to stretch it out. Did your ballistic program indicate if it had a transitioned sub sonic. I was wondering if the 162 Amax would transition.

Nice setup you got there, I need to my 7-08 out and running and see how it does. What load are you running?

My load is

162amax
Win brass
46gr of H4350
210m primers
Seated at 2.865

The load is compressed but I drop powder down a 8" tube I made from an aluminum arrow. There are no pressure signs and is easy on brass. I tried varget and got 2940 fps out of 44.5 grains but it had plenty of pressure signs.

7mm-08 is a cool little round. I think It may be my wife's first bolt gun. I am in the process of tacti-cooling a 10/22 for her and me as a practice gun. My plan is to get her more interested in shooting so she doesn't complain as much about me spending most of my disposable income on guns/reloading equipment and components.

7-08 fan here too.
been to 45.5 H4350 and do not see the speed. 2660.
You are livin large with yours and it is an inspiration.

DrewinTejas,

Nice shootin' Man! I'm glad to see more people can see the value in better bullet efficiency as opposed to more power. That little cartridge will take you a loooong ways with the right bullet.

BTW, back in August of 2011, I was with some friends (on here) and shot to 1785 yds, a legitimate mile. The 7mm-08 and 6.5 Creedmoor were both hitting at one mile and when not hitting coming right in there. Both, by the sounds and placement of camera/audio pickups, were supersonic @ 4000 ft ASL in 90+ deg. heat.

Again, flat out awesome you're pushing the mile+ range with the little cartridge with the really efficient bullet.;)

Guys, thanks a lot for the complements. About the can, I love it and have put about 175 rounds down it thru this rifle. The can is super light, my groups got better, the recoil reduction is awesome, and so on. I could not be happier with the can, Curtis did one hell of a job on this one. We have shot the can on 7-08, 223 18" ar (did great), and 8" sbr 300blk.

Shooter, thanks on the shirt, Jay was my first step into learning what the hell to do witg a bolt gun. Best thing I have ever spent money on. I always try and make his match in the fall.

One dude on speed, I know a few people running 7-08, try varget to get speed, start at 42grains and work up. Varget will get you speed but since this is my comp rifle I push it hard so I stuck with h4350 to keep it tame.

Also I am not sure on the plate size but it is less than 2ft. And we have tried this shot with a 260 and put 3 hits into the blind in the background.

Your load is almost identical to mine except I run 43 gr MR2000 for a speed of 2725 out of a 22" barrel.

Good job Drew. I am having a 7-08 build now and am trying to come up with a good powder to start with. Has any of you tried IMR 4064?

Good to see the 7-08 getting some showings. I am awaiting mine from the smith. I'm bucking the trend even more and using a win70 action. We will see how it goes.

I've got a 7-08ai on the way so am keen to read what you have done.
Its a long way for a small 7mm.
I shot in a 1500 yard 1 day comp last week with a .284win loaded with 180gn Bergers. I was up against a bunch of 7mm SAUM's loaded with the same bullet and they did a better job of it on the score board but I still beat 4 of them.
At 1000, 1100 and 1200 yards the pure accuracy of the .284 was better over the long 4 day comp but at the longer distance the SAUM's are king.

Can you get these kinds of results with factory ammo?

Asking bc when I rebarreling my current rifle I was torn between 6.5 cm and a 7mm of some sort but I do no hand load.

Well then I guess I better learn. I've reloaded some light handgun loads but looks like its time to put my smart pants on and start reading the reloading forum.

There is no good factory 7mm-08 ammo. It is a load your own kinda round. 162amax and 162bthp are the best bets. Some have tried the 175smk. I have a box and going to try them but I have had great results with the 162s that I probably will just stick with them.
