Anybody have any experience of running one of the 6.5 calibers in a short barrel bolt gun? Wanting a lighter weight 800 yard capable rifle.... And thinking of ideas. I'm thinking 6.5x47? Hoping to make it a 400 yard or so hunting rig as well. Not so sure about the 6.5 Grendel..... Thoughts?

Rem 700
Criterion Rem-Age barrel
Northland SS barrel nut
Manners T5a
APA RTG Bottom metal
NXS 2.5-10x32
Seekins 20moa base
Farrell low alloy rings
Harris Bipod
Thunderbeast 30p-1

13lbs as pictured. (edit: This is off a crappy digital bathroom scale)

So far all I've shot are some 95gr vmax at 3000fps (I built it for coyotes mostly. Haven't worked up a deer load yet. I'll be using either 120sst's or the 130 VLD)

Ordered that length and threaded from Jim. It's the Light Varmint contour BTW

I had the same thought last fall and here's what i ended up with.
top rifle is a 16.5" 6.5x47mm lapua
bottom rifle is a 26" 6.5x47mm lapua

I. Having a light weight .260 18" built. Going to have a tikka t3 action, #3 contour can't remember the barrel maker right now, manners elite hunter stock, leupold 3.5-10x40 and can't remember the rings. Should be under 9lbs all together.

I have a 21" 6.5x47L and it moves the 107gr SMK at 3000fps. I'm pointing the 107gr SMKs and estimate the BC at 0.48-ish w/ the points, very solid setup out to 600yds, as its right outside of the 130 and 140's on wind drift. Good powder choices for this barrel length and bullet weight include: RL-15 and N-540. I estimate you would loss ~35-40fps for each inch you cut off down to 18". You could run the brass harder and get more MV if desired (I had the 107gr SMK moving at nearly 3100fps with N-540!)

Did you do a search, I have responded to this exact question half a dozen times. There are quite a few of us on here running 16-20" 6.5 variants and a lot of load data and velocities. I'm not trying to be an ass but use the search engine, there was just a thread about this last week that came up, and the week before that and the week before that. I think you get the pattern.

General consensus is everyone who has one loves it. Easily my favorite rifle.

18" 6.5 Creedmoor of mine ran 130 bergers at 2810 fps using 44.5 g H4350
ran 3056fps with 100g Amax and 42.7g Varget.

just what you asked for. 6.5x47 with an 18" barrel

Very nice Pyplynr. If only my 18" .243 had those features lol.

As to the OP go for it. I don't have a 6.5x47L 18" build (been wanting one for some time) but i do run 105gr Berger VLD hunting loads out of our 18" .243 at 2700fps. Haven't taken game past 350yds. I have run it out to 450yds on steel with good success though.
