OK I should probably start this out by saying I'm not superstitious but certain things I do believe. Ive always been told that if you have a gun and its saved your life it has a good soul for you and if you have a gun that kills its owner or tries to it has a bad soul and it needs to be destroyed. The reason I bring this up is because I had a buddy drop his gun last week and it went off into his gut. He is going to be OK and make it. But I stopped by to see him and see when we are going to destroy the gun. He said he was going to keep the gun and come to find out that gun had almost killed his grandpa, dad, and all his uncles. He thinks I'm weird for thinking this way is it weird to think like this?

share this story with pat frankenstein and spoogeberg please, their advice is all I would follow on the matter

Well since you ask, yes this is very weird. In my opinion firearms should be handled by rational principles. But if you and your friend persist in your superstition perhaps you could just get a priest to preform an exorcism. While I may not be willing to believe the gun is evil, your friend may be too dumb to own a gun, and perhaps you should persuade him to sell it or gift it to a more responsible person.

The gun is a tool. We base a large part of our arguements for 2nd amendment rights on the idea that guns are only tools and only as safe as the hands that hold them. You must forgive my bluntness, but your friend and his family were irresponsible. No GUN almost killed them, they almost killed THEMSELVES. Worst case, the gun is defective and needs to go to a smith for a proper function and safety check. Personally, it sounds like a group of shooters who all make the same mistakes, rather than a gun with a mechanical issue.

Sounds like your friend has a bad one. I would like to help him out. Please PM me with the particulars of the weapon and for a nominal fee I can perform an exorcism and free the malevolent spirit from the weapon. If you are not into that I can take the gun and destroy it for a lesser fee. Also I have an invention that attaches a yo-yo like device to the grip of a weapon keeping its user from dropping it. This to you can have for a nominal fee.

The problem sounds hereditary(no offense, but you said that every guy in the family has been shot with it), not the fault of an inanimate object. It's the stuff of Hollywood(There's a movie like that, go figure) to believe that something without heart, soul, and mind can be personified as being evil, bad, or malicious.

Don't listen to DuneBoer though. I'm a certified Gun Priest, he isn't. I will need your buddy's firearm, and $100 for ammo, and to bless, and make the Holy Oil, from a quart of Mobil 1. It might take some time though, it's a lengthy process involving many strings of firing at the range.

If your buddy really wants to get rid of it, then I will seriously take it. Tell him.

Yes this is ridiculous. Guns have no superstitious connotations. Cards however can be completely evil in a poker game. There are also evil hats, shirts, and generally anything can be suspect when playing cards. That is why I never eat peanuts at a poker game....wait...considering my last few trips to the casino, maybe I should try eating peanuts.

The gun is not evil. I, on the other hand, am.

Maybe it's just easier to blame an inanimate object than your (his) own stupidity/genes. Sounds more like Darwin is trying to clean the gene pool.

Sitting here on the sidelines, I'm only thinking a few things:

"People really can't be THAT stupid"

"Look at all the folks getting trolled"

Which brings me back to the "People really can't be THAT stupid" statement. This thread should have been called "Circular insanity."

No mames!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

¡ Sí, mama, sigue sigue !

:D

I was thinking that Hollywood could seize this and run with the good vs. bad thing. It's been a while since Ralph Macchio had a project ...

Haha, fuck these dudes! If that's what you think, don't let them tell you different. These are the same guys that have to wear the same pair of multicam underwear and the socks with the hole on the right big toe to shoot worth a shit. Have your pal keep it and wait and see if it happens again or get rid of it and see if its his family that's cursed.

Or don't... Haha!

While I'm not a big fan of firearms that are not "drop safe", the gun is not at fault. It seems like there is a family history of very poor gun safety habits, and someone better step in with some immediate action to remedy the situation before an innocent party gets hurt or killed. The fact that anyone is willing to chalk this up to superstition simply obfuscates the actual root cause and perpetuates unacceptable behavior. Stop with the bullshit and have a serious heart-to-heart talk with your friend. As the tired and overused saying goes, the life you save may be your own.

There used to be a guy on this forum who had a sig line that went something like this "I believe as the Vikings did. That my weapons have spirits of their own." Kind of a pleasant thought but wholly unrealistic.

A gun is a tool. Treat it poorly and bad things happen, to the user or what's being worked on. If it's broken, fix it or replace it.

Apparantly bad fireams habits are genetic with this guy. Negligence on a firearm causes it to go off when dropped. Not replacing a bad part, putting a part in incorrectly, or something is causing this, not bad luck or soul. Ignorance allowed it go unchecked from the grandfather to the father. Stupidity allows it to continue.

If he dropped his gun and it went off, then something is very wrong with the gun.
Especially if as he says it has had a long history of causing injury in his family

It tells me 2 things:

1. Most likely the family may not be the most coordinated or the most respecting of prime gun safety rules
2. The gun is dangerously defective, or has become dangerously worn or was dangerously modified and it should be gotten rid of unless it is something of historical value, then put it in the family museum

While it would make for a good movie (actually already been done before as a TV series called Dead Man's Gun Dead Man's Gun (1997?1999) - Episodes - IMDb)
I think most likely it is unsound mechanically and should be gotten rid of promptly.
