Hi all,

I've been getting more into shooting and this place is a great resource, so I thought I'd sign up.

My dad taught me how to shoot when I was young, mostly shotgun and pheasant hunts, and I got away from it until recently where finishing grad school and starting a job left me with some disposable income. I'm an engineer by training and now trade. I'm continuing on in a PhD program part time.

I've had a couple handguns and shotguns, but picked up a precision AR to learn with, mostly shooting for group size at 100 yards.

Next purchase is a .308 bolt action, but I'm waiting until I find a range where I can put it through its paces past 200 yards, so if anybody knows a good one within a couple hours of Dayton, please post the info. I've found a couple nice short range ones with steel and 3 gun or pistol competition I'm looking into in the meantime.

I also compete in powerlifting in the 181lb weight class and am fairly well versed in matters of physical training, which may be of some use to this board. I'm not an endurance guy, but most of my training is of the high speed, low drag philosophy. I've done strongman competitions in the past as well.

Otherwise, I'm single and have the freedom to not concern myself with anything other than lifting, shooting, school, work, food, and the occasional young lady that will grace me with some attention. I understand this time of my life soon will end, but I'm going to try and enjoy it while I can.

Looking forward to learning a lot from this place.

Welcome to the Hide and also nice to see another Buckeye here. You'd be more than welcome to join us for one of our practice/tweak days at Rayners Range ( Rayner's Range ) We usually get there a few times each month and they also have a LR (234 - 1000 yard) steel plate match the fourth weekend of each month.

A short video clip of some of the targets at one of Rayers Matches Short Clips at Rayners Range shooting out to 1000 yards. - YouTube

Another range located near Cambridge/Zanesville is Thunder Valley Precision ( Thunder Valley Precision » Specialized long range shooting facility ) They also run long range steel plate matches nearly every weekend and have targets out past 1000 yards and also a mile target.

Lots of good info on here, you'll learn to sort thru the BS and find nearly any question you have will be answered in a thread if you use the search by some very qualified precision shooters.

Good luck, shoot straight

Welcome. If you look south towards Cincinnati you'll find a few ranges that will meet your needs. Miami Rifle Pistol goes out to 600 yards but it could still have a waiting list to join. Second would be Butler County Sportsman assoc. It goes out to about 200-220 ish. 3rd would be Lake Bailee goes out to 280-300 and only open weekends BUT he's open to the public. Hope this helps.

The local spring valley range stops at 100. Butler county Sportsman is nice, goes to 200. I've not been to Rayner's, but heard good things; it's a bit south of Zanesville. I went to thunder valley precision recently, and nothing but positives to say about that. It's a bit north of Zanesville.
