I'm gonna start a project (DIY Gun Oven), and was wondering if any one has stripped down and used a simple Toaster oven for the heater and fan. Criagslist has them for around 10-20bucks
I Saw a couple guys on the hide using hot plates and dual hot plates, seemed to be simple.
I'm planning on using a 14gun stackon cabinet from home depot, insulating it and installing around 1500watts of heat, thermostat and timer, etc

any suggestions?

LEOHUNTER, you idea to use the 14gun stackon cabinet, is a good one for sure! What are you planning (and how) to insulate with? I saw a guy in New Mexico (near Grants) with an "oven", he had a metal cabinet, similar in size to what your planning, his insulation was unique. He used fire brick, along with "fire brick mortar" around the entire unit. The steel box became a permanent insert, if you will. This guys name was, Ernie, but I can't remember his last name, really nice guy, and really smart about building "ovens". He told me he had gotten the idea from some of the indian ovens used for bread making, his big concern was that the temp stay even in all parts of the box, he had a small circulating fan and a electric heating element. The heating element was mounted on the side, not the bottom. In any event, Ernie's oven was a work of art, in and of its self. One thing he told me regarding temp( and this stuck in my mind) was, while most mfgs give you a temp and time, he has found you can reduce the temp, go for a longer time, and get a far better product, he felt the mfg's were catering to the "I want it fast as possible" crowd. Good luck on your oven, it's going to large enough for you do what ever you've got in mind!
