Going to make a big jump and sell my bolt gun and go to an ar-10. Toss up between the bison armory ar-10 and the 716 with me leaning towards the SIG. So for you that have them how do you like them? I had the chance to finger fuck one today but it was the patrol model not the precision. Hows the accuracy? What ammo is it preferring 155, 168, or 175 grain? Any problem's? Hows the finish? Basically if anyone has one and could give me a review with a range report it would be very much appreciated thank you.

I have a buddy wanting to do the same thing and I question why SIG. IMO SIG makes decent stuff but my no means are they in the same league as Larue, LMT, Mega, LWRC. To me just because it says Precision doesn't mean they've taken the steps to accurize it. It doesn't answer your question but still consider the others

With the military discount the 716 precision comes out to 2086, and a 9-12 month wait. I think im gona go with the gap-10 its what I want so no reason not to wait a little bit longer and get what i really desire.

Yes good choice. Besides the SIG 716 has a very heavy tigger pull which means I am going to have to invest in a decent trigger trigger which will bring the price closer to a GAP 10.

After the abortion that was my sig 556 classic I have a hard time recommending sig, I think you're making the right choice by going with one of the known quantities listed above.

i had the sig716 patrol earlier this year, not precision. i got nothing but frustration with it. maybe i'm the chosen unlucky one.

I'm happy with mine! I did replace the trigger with Wilson-ttu and I get .75-1.0 MOA. It easily reaches 600yds targets with USO 1.5-6 DFP scope. Have not tried any further as the range ends at 600. It seems to like A-max bullets as I seem to get the best results. It is my first rifle so I do not know how it compares to others.

Ive had two 716 patrols, just have one now... the one I kept is a consistent sub MOA shooter and does 1000 meters all day long, the other I couldnt get better than 1-1.25 MOA. The one I sold was a FDE gen 1, the current is a black Gen 2... I REALLY want a precision but im going to wait until one of the Sig LE dealers gets one on the shelf. I think the 716 I have now has been flawless and keeps coming back for more, only issue ive seen is it really didnt care for Federal GMM 175 and popped a few primers. I heard the mil 7.62 stuff with the crimped pockets works fine as I was using 308, but I just switched back to Hornady A-max 168s and it drills the steel at any distance consistently with no primer issues. I did put a Hogan drop in trigger in mine, works great as a run and gun rifle, or precision as its about 4-4.5 lbs and not super light.

Sig customer service and tech department is worthless though and because of that, the 716 and 516 are likely the only guns I will buy from them (except the 556R, that thing is bad ass!)

Im patiently waiting for them to come out... Unfortunately I've been waiting for quite some time and Sig isn't the quickest to roll things out even years after they hit the website. Looking at some of the new Gen 2 Armalite stuff that takes Pmags instead. I liked the Sig 716 Patrol and Scar 17, but I want a dedicated "precision" 18 or 20 inch 308 AR and don't feel like paying near $4,000 for a LMT.

I have the 16 inch Sig716p in green with the G 3 gun trigger and it has been a tack driver and 100% in every way . I have a Viper pst 4-16x50 sfp on it and get sub moa at 100 yards and if I do my part it has gotten 1 to 1.5 inch groups at 300 yards. My rifle likes both the 178 and 168 grain Amax ammo and the 175 and 168 gran FedGMM SMK real well . I get about 2 to 3 inch groups with surplus ( Port,Dag,Hirt,Aussy and M80 ) . Other then the factory trigger being too heavy the Sig 716p is a great rifle .I expect the new precision long barrel 716 would be even better . I a'm on the wait list for the FD .308 ( http://www.fd-defense.com/index.php/fd308-fd260/fd308) ,and still have 9 months to go . I expect it to be a step above the Sig in accuracy . I find the 716P to be a very handy size for a 308 .

I have a standard Sig 716 and a GAP 10. You MUST replace the trigger in the 716. After installing a Geiselle, the 716 is a very nice sub-MOA rifle with a Leupold Mark 4 3.5-10x40 (even if not the precision model). It is lighter and more maneuverable. I really enjoy shooting it. My GAP 10, however, is in a whole different league. I have a Leupold Mark 6 3-18x44 on it. It is closer to 1/2 MOA. It shoots better than I do.

The difference in quality/value between the 716 and GAP10 is much greater than the difference in price. Splurge for the GAP!!

I loved my 716s, I really just wanted a longer barrel... Talked to armalite about a super sass, quite a bit more than the sig and close to the scar, gonna think about it for a few.

I really like my 716 P and it shoots amazingly well 1/2 MOA with my 168 and 175 Sierra Match King reloads.
It made me crazy for a while after I bought it as it didn't like ANY factory loads I tried to feed it Fed GMM and Win Supreme Match 168s would shoot only 2 MOA even after I upgraded the trigger and these have always been my go to loads in .308.
I was getting concerned and was starting to look for a new home for it when I tried the first handload a 175 SMK loaded with Varget powder and my first group was .4 and I found that it will shoot my 168 or 175 hand loads into 1/2 MOA all day long.
Needless to say I was ecstatic and by the way no it is no longer looking for a new home.
I am not concerned about the 16" barrel I get 2540 FPS out of my 175 loads.
I would like a longer fore end I'm not really impressed with the carbine length rail.
I see a 716 DMR in my future for that reason alone even though a better trigger and longer barrel don't hurt
