I have been watering at the mouth to get this 338 lapua from a local to me shop. It is a box stock remington 700 with what I would assume is a factory installed brake and a accurate mag.

How are these off the shelf? What are the do's and dont's when you buy this rifle? Is the factory stock and flimsy accurate mag GTG?

Any other info about this setup is appreciated before I drop 2 grand to buy it.

I personally like the Savage 110 FCP HS model for a starter 338. but make sure you reload for this thing. factor tht cost into the buy before you just splurge into the 338 game

I have a reloading setup that I am currently using, just need to gather the things needed to switch to a 338. Just the regular ammenities like, brass, powder and the other common items.

That thread has alot of good info in it. Thanks for diggin that up.

Im not really a big fan of the mags that were on the one I was finger banging, they seemed kinda week. They actually have two on the shelf. One with a screw on brake and the other with a ported shorter barrel. The ported shorter barreled 338 had a black stock and black coated barrel, the one with the screw on brake was longer with a green stock and stainless barrel.

That is SOOOO true, and one reason I ended up with 6.5Creedmoor, instead of a 338LM. That and unless you got 1,000+ yards to shoot it, or have a need to interdict vehicles with a kill shot, its a waste of money.

I happened to get a HUGE deal on 338 and some once fired brass so I jumped on it. Did I need a 338? No. But wanted it and it does a number on groundhogs
I figured up the cost per round if I got six reloads on the laupa brass and using 250 grain sierra soft points and it came out to like $1.11 per round. Thats way cheaper than factory 338 and a lot of other smaller calibers too

The cost isn't holding me back. The fact I don't have a legit range to shoot it is. One day....

ANywho, be sure to post pics when you get it.

If you just have to have a 338LM your better off building one.

The ballistic capability of the 338lm FAR exceeds the capability of most factory rifle barrels. Sure, sometimes you can get lucky with a $1500 lgs purchase, but if I'm gonna be sending that kinda $$ per round down range i want to know that the only reason I'll miss is me, not my $1500 rifle with a mass produced barrel and unbedded mad produced stock. I already tried that once with the 110BA and it was a MASSIVE disappointment.
With that said, I just dropped off a TAC 338 action and bartlein 30"barrel at my gunsmith. It will go in an XLR chassis. It should easily shoot better than me...

.300WM is much less of a commitment than .338LM - factory ammo and reloading components are cheaper and it's still good to 1400 yards. A lot of guys who make the jump from .308WIN to .338LM seem to be shooting them at .308WIN distances.

Funny, the same thing happened with my 110BA, burned allot of powder trying to get the darn thing to shoot. I gutted the thing except for the action, had it trued, stuck in a manners T5-A, with Accurate-Mag BM, and had Mark Channlyn chamber up one of his 30" med Palma tubes. The thing shoots .3, just got my stock back from CGC had Branden put a 4 color brown Flectarn on it and had Paul @ PPR flute the bolt and now the barreled action is being Cerakoted. Good luck with yours.

Yep, I see and read that allot as well, what a waste of good powder and bullets! I look for quite a few 338LM to be on the market by the end of the year especially with the shortages going on. Mine never see's less than 1300yds.

I personally know 2 guys with 110 BA's and ive got my HS FCP. they shoot great. I wont throw out bs numbers cuz I don't have the pix to back it up on me. another idea would be a DTA. get a conversion kit to supplement the 338 whenever supplies run low. im actually trying to find one locally and get the balls to drop the money.
