Hey I am new to this forum, but I have built a couple of rifles over the years. I just received my Stiller 408 action, and am planning to build either a 408 or 375 Cheytac off of it. I am leaning towards the 375. I am curious as to what barrels everyone thinks would be a good choice (also the contour). I have ordered a McMillan A5 stock for it. I would like to keep the rifle under 21 pounds. I am thinking a 26 or 28 inch barrel would be about right. If I go with the 375 I am considering the 1:10 to 1:11 twist, not sure about the 408. I know there is someone here that can help me narrow down the choice.
I am also trying to find the bottom metal and a detachable magazine, as well as a good muzzle break.

There are many more reasons to choose .375CT over .408CT - bullet options and ballistic performance being the strongest. With the .375CT, velocity is key, so most guys are running 29" or slightly longer barrels. Most seem fine with 1:11 twist but a slightly faster twist could be useful with some of the longer bullets.

There is only one source of a DBM floorplate and magazines for this action and calibers that I am aware of. It is made by Bruce Baer and I think Stillers also carries them for this action.

Most 375's I do are 1-10 any more. I've Brux, Lilja and benchmark barrels. They all shoot about the same but I lean towards Brux because of the cut rifled and they make a contour fo me that keeps the weight down but accuracy up.

I talked to Lilja and I believe their 1:10 is what I will use. I am thinking about 30 inches long.

I called Bruce Baer on Friday, I guess he was taking an early holiday. I'll get in touch with him tuesday.

By the way thanks for helping and thanks to any of our service men and woman. My brother was in Vietnam, so thanks for everything.
