I have a long action adl that is going to get a new stock. The selection of new stocks in adl is very limited. If I get a bdl stock is it a simple matter of using the bdl trigger guard with the trapdoor on it? Any other parts required?

The internal parts of the BDL floor plate. Follower, internal spring, box mag... You usually can get it all together in the classifieds for around $50, including the receiver bolts. Might be a little harder to find because it's a LA though,

good luck,

Seekers

The adl mag box is taller than the bbl box so you'll need to trim it to fit. Remove material from the bottom of the box until it runs in your bdl set up with out binding. Might be easier to buy the correct box from Brownells.

You might consider buying a PT&G steel hinged floor plate bottom metal. Well worth the money to upgrade to steel.

I'll look tomorrow, i might have all the pieces you need lying around. What type of stock are you looking for? I have a fully adjustable H-S sitting in my garage that could use a home

You should just buy the B&C stock I have for sale with detachable mag & bottom metal. Check the equipment classifieds :)

Basically the 700 receivers all have the same 2 holes. The stocks, bottom metal, and mags have to be the same type if you don't want to do any fitting.

Hey Strike if the OP might not want the adjustable stock, I have a non-adjustable HS (black w/ green web) from a 5r he may be interested in and I may in turn like your adjustable model :)
Morgan, I did just what you are doing- started with an ADL and got a 5r takeoff w/ bottom metal, mag box, screws and swapped it all out. MUCH better feel, the new stock has a huge barrel channel for a sporter barrel though. Then it snowballed into a new barrel blank waiting on me to save some more to get it fitted up lol

I did the cheap conversion by trimming down the ADL mag box to fit. Mine was a short action, but the concept is the same.

Strike and grant: I just want a decent rigid stock, any quality brand is fine. Are you both talking about an M24 stock? Send me details, I'm interested if the specifics are good. Also strike, I would definitely buy the bottom metal pieces if you have them for a reasonable price.
Archer: would you sell your stock alone?

I bought a bottom metal (ebay), cut an opening in my adl stock (with a dremel) And, trimmed the mag box to work with the bottom metal. It is a temporary fix but it has served its purpose and worked well for 2 years. Good luck and if you need any help drop me a line.
