I have a Rem Model 7 in .300 Blackout. The practical range for my needs is 75-100 yards. I need a high visibility reticle that is non-illuminated.

Price is a consideration. I'd like a fixed power optic if possible.

My thoughts are that the German #1, while coarse and large, was designed for this very thing in mind because of the lack of illumination back in the day, with the German #4 being a progression from there. And there's also the heavy duplex.

All input is welcome.

Why no illumination?

I too like the number 1, then followed by the heavy duplex. BTW the #1 is good for a lot more than 100 yards-ask the soviet WWII snipers, very similar lay out.

So what power do you want? Does it have to be fixed? No 1-4x or 2.5-10x? What's the target and use?

Target- Beavers (four legged, swimming type). It doesn't have to be fixed but since I'm hunting in dim light conditions, I figured the fewer lenses the better.

I just read back and saw your budget is around $300. If you could stretch a little to the IOR, you'd love it I'm sure. But, for $300 I think the best scope available for what you will be doing is the SWFA SS 6x. It has around 140 moa of adjustment and is perfectly suited to subsonic 300 blk or 22lr., and also has as much field of view as a lot of 4x's. With the 7mm exit pupil it will likely be hard to beat in lowlight. The mil quad reticle isn't the perfect choice for lowlight, but at 6x the heavy side bars contrast well. To me, it is kind of an inverted german #4.

I hate to do this cause I hate when someone does it to me...but for an extra 100. Ive been looking at the leupold vxr 1-4 illum ger #4. The entire corsshairs in not illuminated rather a dot in the center.

You can also get the VX-R 1.25-4x20 with the illuminated Pig Plex, kind of cool... I think.
