First if all, she is 10 so no stupid remarks a about pictures.

My girl loves to shoot with me and I am giving her my .22. I would like to build her a.223 by Christmas. She wants pink camo.

I am thinking a 5r or varmint in.223 and will have the stock cut down to fit her. We are going to do an Appleseed and hopefully a basic course in the next year.

Please post pics of girl rifles, paint schemes, camo, etc...

It depends on what she wants but I am thinking the soft pink/desert sand color and a mix of browns.

Thanks in advance for the advice, ideas, and pictures.

I "just read" an article about the new Mossberg 223. Comes in wood, and /or composite, for a lot cheaper than the 5R Remmy. The guy's targets looked good. Under an inch, at 100. He thought it was a great rifle. They're chambered for 5.56, and 223 Remmy. No problems, with ammo. I've got the 5R remmy, in 223, but was "looking" at the Mossberg, for one of my kids.$6?? something hundred VS 1100. Leaves a lot of room for a pink Camo paint job, and glass.Just a thought.

Ive got the mossberg MVP and will get another for all three of my daughters.
There are alot of plusses.
lightweight...alot lighter than it looks.
pretty dang good trigger for the money.
It will shoot most loads under 1.25 MOA, which isn't stellar by any means, but it will put certain loads into .8+ groups when all goes well. However, it will put every load I have tried with the exception of one cast bullet, in the same 2" circle at 100. That is impressive by any standards. I am going to rebarrel my daughters to 6x45mm and make a folding skeletonized chasis for it out of CF and aluminum. Thats a project for a couple years down the road though.
Sorry, I just realized I gave you information you didnt ask for!

BTW, my daughter is 6 and can shoot it if I get it up on the bipod or rest for her, but she is tiny for a 6 year old, so I end up carrying two guns out with us. The biggest thing I have done for my children's marksmanship skills is to have a suppressor on all of "their" rifles. And when its time to hunt, I carry an SBR .300BLK with a reflex sight in case a bad shot is made on their part, I will have the ability to get on target quickly and dispatch the critter, so there is no suffering. I highly doubt it will be necessary, as they get about as much training in a year as a company of reserves do. Im glad to see another dad taking the time to raise his little girl right, and not make them feel like its a boys only sport. My respect to you, and I'm sure you will have hers as well, for life.

I'd buy a Savage/Stevens, a B&C medalist (good but cheap so you won't feel bad chopping it down), and screw a CBI .223AI barrel on it.

Of course, Krylon on a pink/purple Hello-Kitty camo scheme!

I built a first .223 for my wife using a Dick's special .223 varmint (less than $400 after rebates). New (used) stock for under $250 from someone here and a Timney 517 trigger upgrade is all I've done so far and it shoots pretty well for an essentially stock rifle. If and when she outgrows/out-shoots it as is, I'll upgrade further. So far I'm in it for just less than $1000 including scope and she's pretty happy (which makes me happy).

Next logical upgrade is better glass. Just my experience.

Donor 700SA, 20" barrel (pick a maker),PTG PPC faced bolt, chambered for 6.5 grendel, PTG bottom metal, AICS mags, HS Precision stock, Good glass and bam! Relatively light, moderate ((for an 11 year old)just making a assumptions here)) to minimal recoil, a caliber that shoots flat enough/drifts minimally to practice at distances out to 1K and cheap enough to do it all day.

Finish that puppy off with a Sniper grey barrel, stock, action and bolt knob. Followed by some bright A@# pink bolt. Maybe with a hint of grey/pink digi-camo and wham bam! Done

Savage/Stevens rifle, B&C stock and then send off to someone who does duracoat and get the pink camo job done.

It's great to hear you're taking the time to take your daughter to the Appleseed event, I'm sure it's something she'll remember for the rest of her life. First time I took my daughter out shooting, she was hooked as well (of course now she has hi-jacked my savage XLR rig whenever she's home from college...guess I'm going to have to order another one, as I think this one is going to get lost soon... :) )

+3 for the Savage and Bell & Carlson A2 Medalist.

As others have mentioned a Criterion aftermarket barrel will bring a Savage action alive, but I experienced great accuracy out to 650yd with a bone-stock 12FV (26" 1:9 varmint contour) 223 barrel and the 75gr Hornady HPBT with 24 grains Varget.
