i am considering buying xlr or mcree for my rem 700 .308 and i am wondering is what is the difference between those 2,

Of those two I would choose the mcree but overall I would go with the JP AMCS chassis
Between those two - the XLR. Played around with a carbon fiber folder XLR today - absolutely ridiculous!
I have both, and I honestly could not pick one over the other after extensive use of both. Each have pros and cons depending on what you like. If you can, try and get down behind both of them and feel for yourself which one you would prefer. Both are fully adjustable, and the only real difference is the appearance of the fore end. Mags lock in easier in my Mcree, but since the Mcree is on a long action and the XLR is on a short action, I cannot directly compare the fit.

Ive had a couple of aics, an apo and a mccree, but ive never so much as seen an xlr in person. That being said, of the chassis i have used the mccree worked the best for me. The range of adjustments is way better than the aics, its pretty heavy, but the ergonimics work great for me, scott mccree is great when it comes to customer service, and the price point is hard to argue with.
I've never seen or handled an XLR. But I am extremely happy with my McRee chassis. I have used it hunting for two seasons now. And its my regular 1000 yard rifle.
both are great, the Mcrees i like bit better, since it dont limit my base or ring choice... the XLR, u need a base thae ends at the front of the reciver
That is true regarding the base and an XLR, but it's a quick and easy job to trim the base and re-blue/re-coat it.
In my opinion, the tubular hand guard on the xlr adds some real flexibility and options, especially for positional shooting.
I went with the carbon XLR its lighter and i like it over the mcrees, my buddies both use a mcree and i just didnt click w/ it. My savage XLR is lighter than my AR w/o bipod or scope added.
For a no trim base look at the warne bases, i used one of the savage steel warnes and its a no trim i didnt even have to bed it but still skim bedded it anyway.
I have not shot it yet, but it feels like my AR so it should do me well and is the reason i went with it for a common feel between the two guns. Oh and i LOOOVE the ergo grip that comes with the XLR.
I recently wrestled with this same decision and eventually went with McRee's. With the McRee chassis, I was able to get an ambi setup, in raw, with a folding stock, a 10rd mag and stock pack for less than the XLR chassis. Granted, I still have to have it coated, but this gives me more choices than either the black, OD or FDE that McRee offers or the Black or Green that XLR offers.
On top of that, I was in such a rush to place my order (excitement) that I inadvertently ordered the wrong spacing (Savage action). One call to McRee's and they told me to send it back and they would have me another out right away. I did just that. I called on a Tuesday, shipped it the following day and they received it back on Friday. I had another chassis in my hands on the following Wed. 1 week for me to ship to them and them to ship back. I know that all of that time was spent in transit as well. Can't beat that for customer service!!

I would choose the XLR. Put the money down on the XLR chassis! The carbon version looks great and is really light. The base length isn't an issue as Kyle will cut it and ship it back to you (as he did my Badger). Buy once, cry once.

I don't really see how that applies here. They're both outstanding chassis' and either will serve him well.

Playing devils advocate here and having handled/shot both McRee & XLR I'd would, if it was my money, say neither and get someone to ship you an EVO stock from Third Eye thus Evo Chassis
Better fit and finish, all the options and combinations your need, feels more comfortable.

I run the Mcree Chassis with the XLR stock best of both worlds.

Rock Solid makes an awesome stock.
So many good chasis systems out on the market. I have owned the AICS, McCrees, Rock Solid, and the manners mini-chasis.
I like them all, but still have a rock solid, and manners mini-chasis for what it is worth.
for a hunting rifle, look hard at the manners stock with the mini chasis. I think it is worth a look for that application.

I want to hate it and yet I find it strangely interesting lol... Nice rig!
Cant go wrong with a g5 from mcrees. The adjustability is unreal. You are not limited on how it can be configured, completely modular to adjust for specific applications. The price point for the g5, mags and accessories is tough to beat.

I have a Mcree and really like do not think you could go wrong with one . I have mine on a 338 RUM and it does well on the range I also hunt with it 2 legs and 4.
Very good choice! Some of the many positives with mcrees chassis: no extra lead times on colors other than black, battle tested and proven repeatedly, cross modular parts from all other mcrees systems, common bolts can be found in any hardware store, unlimited adaptability, manufactured in house- not outsourced, multiple flush cup mounts, magazines are $64- not $80.

what do you mean no lead times other than black. if i order black color, will it be longer?
Whoops- nope, what i meant was some companies offer black as standard shelf stock item, with extended ship times for other colors for coating...mcrees wont add a month of production time for colors like od, fde....

I'd order an xlr chassis today (i've tried for two weeks) if the guy cared to call or email me back to take my credit card info down. Oh well..lost my business. God forbid someone have a warranty issue.
I rock Mcree. Good stuff. Scott and his wife... I believe Anna are awesome. Great price point for a quality, bullet proof product. I have shot a few rifles in the XLR and it is a nice system, but I feel the Mcree chassis is the way to go.

Looks like the XLR tactical buttstock I have on my XLR chassis.

I might be wrong but I am pretty sure this was fixed with the G5? I've got the G5 and there is no gap between my grip and the trigger guard, it's got a completely seamless feel.
Maybe it's just the grip that I have on it (stock Mcrees grip)
