Can I have your opinions on bolt on muzzle breaks? I am not at a point where I can afford to have my barrel threaded and a break installed but the bolt ons are affordable enough where I can make it happen. Any thoughts?

I would want to make sure there would be no bullet strikes. I'm interested as well. Even the kind I saw that looked like a simple bolt on said that a smith needed to do it.

I have this brake on my Savage 10PC .308 - MRAD "RAPID BRAKE TM" Like you guys I wanted to try a brake, but wasn't wild about the idea of having a smith mess with my rifle. So, I thought I'd give the MRAD a try. My threads on my barrel make me tighten down the brake about 2/3 of one revolution short to time it - meaning a tiny bit of thread shows, and the brake is slightly larger in diameter than the barrel. In this case I could give a shit about the cosmetics. No, it's not the totally seemless look of a smith timed and turned down brake. That said, the results are more than worth what it lacks in appearance. The brake works and works well. It is louder than fuck, but the recoil reduction can only be appreciated by shooting without then with the brake installed. The felt recoil with the brake installed shooting either 150 or 165 grain Hornady bullets I swear feels like less recoil than my AR in 5.56. The .308 is now a joy to shoot all day long. Before the brake I'd shoot 15 - 20 rounds and my shoulder would not look forward to many more rounds....... maybe it was the way I hold my rifle (pretty sure I'm getting in the shoulder pocket where it belongs), or some will just say I'm a pussy since it's only a .308......... whatever, I don't care what someone else thinks. All I know is that I love shooting the 10PC with the MRAD and since it's a loud fucker with punishing blast to the sides, it keeps any ass hats 3 or 4 tables away when I'm at the range. What's not to like about that? One other bonus is that it's quick on or off using a simple allen headed pinch bolt. I'd certainly buy another one. By the way, Battle Arms Development even offers a discount if you are Mil/LE/Fire/EMS or free shipping. Back when I bought mine awhile back, there was a member on here by the handle of Duffy from Battle Arms who hooked me up. Good outfit to do business with.

roedale brake clamped on 700_metric allen screws, no need for gunsmith, only a bit of attention,a level bubble and some TLC_ how to make a 700 looking and barking as an 88_ It works as supposed but, being here, I can't talk about long distances accuracy, for sure_ my main fear was shootin'it away at the first try, but that don't has happened, until now_

I don't think you'll really save much money at all over getting a brake from Ross (Ported Muzzle Brakes and click on Ross' Page to the left for Ross' 3-port) and finding a local smith to thread your barrel. If you don't want it cut/crowned You should be able to just get it threaded for about $75. $125 seems to be the going rate for cut/crown/thread
