That is like walking to mid-court on a basketball count and slinging the ball while you're turned the other direction and hitting nothing but net. He looked pretty surprised to. I wonder if he has ever hit it the first time before or was he as surprised as everyone else. I see he walked away as I don't want to do that twice.
that is crazy............standing i am lucky to hit something at 75 yards......but i am stealing the safety quote...
Impressive, always. Doable, with the right form, regularly.
Lets look at his form. Left hip forward, right shoulder back, left elbow fairly well locked in, very good offhand form. Believe it or not, a heavy rifle is better for offhand. I wouldn't want to shoot a 35lb rifle offhand but he is a pretty stout dude.
Offhand is something all should try. It is a skill that can be aquired with some practice and good coaching. HP guys do it every weekend. Silhouette shooters do it standing up as well(that should be a T-shirt).
If you hit it the first shot you are within your rights to walk away, I would have, and I shoot and have shot lots of offhand over the years, never at 1000yds but I will now try the next time the oportunity presents itself.
If you want to do it, look at what he is doing and emulate it, lock your elbow into your hip if you can. It isn't "cool" to shoot offhand with your left elbow flapping in the wind, you just look like you have no idea what you are doing. I have helped a few over the years attain this skill, and few if any immediately lock their elbow in to the hip.
Try it, you will like it, and you can impress your friends.

One other pointer, and it is huge. When shooting with a scope don't try to stop your wobble, that is impossible. Shoot through the wobble. Like bending a spoon:
Cleck is a book smart gun guy. I'm fairly certain he knows how improbable that shot is, and how lucky he is to make it. He's done tons of shooting/instructing and is an excellent shot from what I have seen. I don't think he actually thought he would hit it since he was using someone else's rifle, let alone the ridiculousness of that shot.
This was a great shot and a memorable moment captured. Smart guy, he put the gun down quickly and walked away.
