I know most folks here are pretty one dimensional regarding football. But it's shaping up to be a pretty good College World Series this year.

Trash Talk anyone????

Glad lsu made it, hope Carolina makes it as well as msu. I'm a former msu player , will be pulling for them, but I would say I will pick lsu to take the title. Very solid in all phases, but as we know in baseball it's who's hot and who's not!

I'm not the biggest baseball fan, but I always want to see SC do well (which they have been doing for some time).

Go... Cocks!

Chip

Yep it's who gets consistent pitching from their staff, and the bats have to get hot to pull it off. Sorry fellas but I'm not pulling for SC or MSU!! lol. I played at South Alabama for Eddie Stanky, would of loved to play for LSU and could of but in the 70's they were at the lower end of the heap in the SEC!! I made the right choice!! That being said I AM pulling for LSU but Mark has it right, it's who's hot that counts.

In watching all the teams play this year I'm not seeing any real dominant team that just cannot be beat. I think the overall pitching is pretty outstanding as there are a lot of youngsters bringing it pretty hard. I think hot bats are going to be the key in the CWS.

We already know the pitching is going to be good!!

stanky was a fine coach. I got recruited at USA also and they had a fine program. When I came along in the mid 80s msu and lsu were pretty much tops. I played for RonPolk.

MSU grad here and pulling for the DOGS! However, I wish Vandy and SC could have made it Omaha.

Opening round is over!! Some Highs and some Lows for sure!! Ms State did a very good job and LSU puked!! I was impressed how NC State handled UNC also. Pretty disappointing to see a team with less than .250 batting average hand LSU a opening round loss. But you can't score 1!!!! run and make errors and expect to win at this level.

All in all some pretty good baseball for opening round weekend. Today and tomorrow should prove interesting.

Lsu lost that game last night because the hitters never made adjustments. The pitcher on ucla pitched high out of the strike zone and lsu swung at them the whole ball game. They were too aggressive and that pitcher did a great job exploiting that. Nola pitched even better, giving up no earned runs. Maybe they can come back, their capable. Msu did well to win their first game. I am pulling for them but I think lack of a dominate starting pitcher will catch up with them.

You are correct Mark, I could feel blood rushing to my face everytime they went after those high pitches and popped up!!!

I do baseball lessons on the side for pitching and hitting. One of my drills I do in the hitting has everything to do with what their swinging at. If its bad pitches they have to learn they will fail. I can't believe the coaches couldn't have made a change early on. That guy was only throwing 87 to 88 and not much movement. If they would have made him bring it down I think they would have hit well. Tomorrows another day!

Just found this, cant believe LSU lost last night. So many runners left stranded and that one error by Bregman gave the game away. Kudos to UCLA for playing their game, LSU played right into their gameplan. Couldnt have planned it any better if you were UCLA.

Oh well, tomorrow is do or die.

State showed some poise for sure!! They are playing well and it couldn't be at a better time for them. Now they can sit back and watch the bloodletting just a little bit. 2-0 is a great position to be in right now. At least this gives them a bit of a rest to prepare!!

LSU has a long hard road. Or a very short road pending today's outcome!!

I always have to cheer for the Kentucky Wildcats! My dad played for them in the mid 80's. He was a pitcher and still holds college records for his fastball. He was not to be trifled with on the fast ball, he could take your head off if he wanted to!
He was drafted to go pro, the Pirates picked him in '85. He declined and went into the family business. I wish I could have seen him play a game in the MLB.

LSU just got sent home in 2!! What a pathetic performance this has been for them.

Lsu out!! Classic case of a team that wasn't playing well at the right time. Hit waaaaay too many fly balls. Line drives and hard ground balls win baseball games. I think the big park hurt them, not many balls going to fly out there. I still think talent wise they were the best team there.

Got one semester left, hoping they go all the way :D. Man these last two games have been freaking nerve racking though. They have to start and close better. It worries me having to play one of those two teams again. I'm kinda hoping it's Indiana i think Oregon State has gotten back in their groove and is doing well. Holder scares the shit out of me every time he has to field the ball. Either way it was two awesome games.

Girodo is a badass since Virginia he's done amazing with that slider. We gotta step up the offense a little bit.

Msu wins 5to4. Throw at end of game almost gave me heart attack! Hahaha!

You and me both damn he scares me lol.

I mean the shit we've had to deal with lol.

I knew this would fucking happen. They better get their damn act together in this second game. Credit where credit due that bruins defense and pitching is lethal. We should've scored tonight though. Gotta stop hitting the fly ball.

I just don't want to be in this thing 2 and out. That would be embarrassing IMO, to come this far, beat the teams we've beat only to wash out 0 and 2. Praying they get something going today. Noone wants to be in the position we're in..

No offense at all bro, but you have no reason to be embarrassed regardless of the outcome. State has done very well to have gotten there. One thing you have to take into consideration is that UCLA has been there 3 out of the last 4 years. CWS experience is a huge factor!! Some of their players may have been there 3 times. It's obvious they know how to play the new Stadium to their advantage. LSU's last rodeo was Rosenblatt, and they obviously thought that they could roll up to Omaha and hit home runs!! NOT!! If you don't think the experience is huge, look at how steady UCLA has been, that confidence comes from experience at the Big Dance.

It could just be it's their turn, and no matter how hard you fight destiny, it always wins out. They have gotten a lot of breaks, they have executed all the little things well, gotten key base hits. Without one bit of power in the equation.

So in the big scheme of things be proud of the "Dogs" they've done well. And it's not over until the last out!!

I'm immensely proud of my guys, just guess i would hate to see them get swept. First National Title ever for MS and we go home 0-2 in the final series would be heart breaking IMO. Graveman should do much better than Fitts starting today. We got to quit giving the ball to the defense and play our game. Seems like we were really nervous and were trying to play safe starting yesterday.

Well...i'm sick feels like someone gutted me. Credit where credit due with the way UCLA is playing it's apparent noone can touch them. Job well done they deserved it. Ready to go home this week gotta go study i'm off. Congrats Mike revel in it man.

Congrats mike, I now bow to you until football season. Congrats to ucla for their first national baseball championship!

I think it boils down to them literally being the hottest team in the NCAA. Without a doubt. 4 runs given up the entire post season that's ridiculous. Their pitching and their defense..noone was going to win against that. It was pretty evident after they beat LSU and UNC, arguably the two best teams in the nation talent wise. Their offense destroyed us last night to make it worse. It wouldn't have been so bad if it weren't 8-0. Again we didn't score a run in the final series. Note i'm not counting Plutko walking one in. They're pitching was just ridiculous. As Savage put it "it was just our time to win". It's just hard to stomach to see us little ole MSU with not so much talent get this far to making history and get swept. Sure it's a staple for the program, we finished #2, and it's nothing to necessarily be ashamed of. But i'll go back to Billy Beane's quote every day of the week cause it resonates with my feeling, nobody gives a shit if you lose the last game. More or less i just wanted that team/group to get it. We might win 10 years from now, which could be great. I wanted to see Renfroe, Giriodo, Graveman, etc. get it.

You know I have always said that I thought that the MLB Draft should have always been AFTER the CWS!! I've said that for many years, going back to my playing days. It's somewhat of a two edged sword. Historically the players who have been drafted relatively high seem to never have a good CWS. There are some exceptions of course, but that would allow the players to focus a little better in my opinion. They go through a lot of stress preparing during post season, add to that the stress of "where" they are going to get drafted.

I certainly don't have all the answers but I think they should just stay out of it and let the kids finish the season. The Draft could be this week!! Plenty of time to sign the players and get them on the road to the Minor Leagues!! They've already missed Spring Training so what's a couple of weeks.

I know when I got drafted I took a dump performance wise for awhile trying desperately to live up to the billboard. Just my humble opinion.

It was disappointing to see MSU not score any runs I'm sure. But like I said earlier, I just had a feeling it was UCLA's time!!!

Didnt they agree to have the draft after the cws next year? I thought I heard that.

UCLA had an awesome CWS and deserved to win.

Even after their first inning of leaning into pitches.

Now the NCAA needs to do something about the lack of excitement. This was one painful CWS to watch, it was boring. I know they are using the MLB ball next year, and I hope that fixes it. Im not saying they need to have a 21-14 game again, that was ridiculous, just some excitement at least.

Part of that blame goes to us not performing and coming out nervous and tight or so it seemed to me. Not that i think that would've changed the outcome but it certainly should've been a better game.

Cool thread.....wish I was around when it was active. Unlike some, I thought the series was very exciting to watch.....UCLA put up one of the most dominate performance in CWS history......that is my alma mater, so some my say I'm alittle biased, but giving up only 4 runs all post season is ridiculous.....and they way they beat CS Fullerton, who I considered the best team in the country heading into the regionals......and look at who they detroyed in the CWS. That was fun to watch. Unfortunately the SEC will be getting plenty of attention over the next six months during football season, rightfully deserved. My UCLA squad should be able to hold their own this year though (not at same level as the big boys in the SEC though).....our QB is top ten in the country too. Should be an exciting CF season.....can't wait for the season to start.
