Hey guys,

I walked into the local gun store and saw a DPMS AR-15 and bought it, its a flat top with no sights, I was wanting to use if for coyote hunting, and the tactical shoots too, but I have a budget and cant really afford buying two optics and swapping them out. But I was looking at the Nikon M-223 2-8X32 with the BDC 600? Im stuck between wanting but not wanting a red dot, and wanting but not wanting a scope. I shoot at coyotes out to 600-700 yards at times but gennerally its the 300-500 yard range.. Any advice from the guys who have experiminted and decided what they like best will be the most appreciated.

You are in a tough spot wanting to reach out so far. I went with a Burris 1 X 4 F/F 30 Tac (illuminated) in a PEPR mount. I know 1 x 4 isn't much but the reason I like it if I am calling in the canyons, those closer in shots aren't too bad. I have gone out on milk jugs to about 250 yards but no further yet. Quite the quandry for you, it is one of the reasons I went with a bolt gun in 223 and put a 4 x 12 on it...

Many competition shoots have guys using 1 x 4's with cattails. So, I can't help much there. I was surprised at the clarity of the Burris for the money. I like it. Good luck.
