Alright, well I just acquired a 10 year old .308 bull barrelled 1/10 twist Savage model 10. Never been fired. This leads me to my next question, I have had a box of 1000, cci250's underneath my bench now for awhile. You see I ment to buy cci200's and somehow managed to grab the cci250's. Other than careful load workup from start to finish, is there any reason I should use regular cci200's or federal 210's over these cci250's? I'm dying to use them up, and this bargain .308 seems like the perfect candidate. The only box of .30cal bullets I have are 178 AMAX's.
.03 off the lands is looking like an OAL of about 2.815.

I'm going to be running Varget.
I'm wanting the load to ping steel at 800 yards...of course 1000 would be nice too but not sure about .308's and when they hit subsonic range with this bullet. .30 cal bullets are an absolute bitch to find around here.

Varget is my favorite powder for the 308 and I use cci 250 most of the time, just work your load up carefully and have fun.

I know it's not recommended to run the 250's for the 308 but I loaded over 800 that way in my gun...just now ran out of those bullets and reloaded some more with cci 200's and saw no difference in groups or velocity.

I was on the low side of powder charge though, don't know how it would react with a hot load

Thanks guys. I have no personal experience with mag primers. I do know I get awesome results in my 243, and 6.5 creedmoor with the cc200's, and would like to save my stash of those for those two cartridges and use up these mag 250 primers if it makes sense to. I'll just load up both and see which primers work best.

Thanks.

any other heads up between cci250's and cci200's with varget and 178 amax's are welcome.
