I know it's not too popular with the tac crowd but, does anyone have a good load/s for the 280 AI. I'm having good luck with IMR 4831 w/ Barnes TTSX 140 gn. but I'm always looking for options.
I have lots of experience with standard .280 Rem, as it is my most used deer rifle round. I know it is not the AI, but it it seems to like H4831 very well, so I would think that the Ackley would probably work well with it too. I shoot 140gr stuff with mine.
Yeah I'm kind of stuck on the 140gr bullets trying to milk out flatter trajectories on deer loads but Greatgonzo is getting pretty close to 3000 fps with a 168gr and RL22. I might just have to work up an elk load in case the opportunity presents itself.
Im monitoring this thread as I really want to build a 280AI, but I am thinking that thist rates should be identified about when I read about everyones favorite load/bullet weight? At least Id be interested in knowing what twist rates are being used on a certain bullet weight. thank you in advance
My rifle utilizes a 1:9 twist medium palma Bartlein at 26". It does equally well with 168 Berger VLDs and Classic Hunters with some Reloader 22. I'm getting just under 3000fps with both the 162s and the 168s with no pressure issues and great brass life (Nosler).
Using H4831sc with 168g Bergers and IMR 4831 with 162g Amax. Lot more info if you go to the reloading depot on and visit the Ackely page and the 280AI page
