Fatigue- one is focused the other not.

A trick shooters use to calm their eyes is to look down at a green surface (like grass) This reduces eye strain and relaxes eyes.

Dammit... the closest grass is about 200 miles away!

You wouldn't get in a fist fight and close one eye, right?

Then don't get in a gun fight and do it. Both eyes open, all the time.

I aim. Sometime both eyes are open, sometimes not. I figure taking notice of either is simply a distraction, and I don't believe distractions are helpful.

Think less, shoot more...

Greg.

Started shooting trap with a shotgun and the guys I shot with told me to put a piece of magic tape on the glass of the non shooting eye to block out the front bead. I kept both eyes open but could not see the front bead with the non shooting eye. Now when I shoot pistol, scoped rifle or iron sights on a rifle I keep both eyes open. It just seems natural and I have a hard time closing my right eye. Try the magic tape on the glass of the non shooting eye for a while.

Other than the fact that it reduces muscle fatigue, when you close one eye you lose your depth perception, and can't estimate targets. Also your field of view is larger, so if your hunting and the buck walks out from behind that tree while your aiming at the doe your not swearing when you see it running away.

Keeping both eyes open through an optic helps with eye strain, the 'shaking' of keeping your eye closed as well as feels more natural. The added bonus is that you should have your eyes open for pistol, shotgun, carbine, shooting with a red dot, etc; so youre doing the same thing for all platforms.

You spend the rest of the day walking around with both eyes open , i dont understand the sudden complication when shooting

There is only benefits to both eyes open
