7mm shooters - prepare to be f*cked!

Damn that sucks, I pretty much just shoot Hornady bullets. Didnt see the 6.5 140bthp's on there thank god as I run those in my 260.

What the hell Hornady? One of most popular bullets, the 162 Amaxes? WTF over?

That is so beyond incredibly fucking stupid I can't even fathom it. Hornady you assholes....

Looks like I'm buying a 6.5 barrel.

You guys can start shooting 308s again. We will point out wind flags out on your local range.

so............now let's play a helpful game........who has some in stock????

I know a place local that has some amaxes, I bought some the other day, looks like I will be goin there tommorrow and buying why they have left, will post them for sale here for a 200% profit

Sounds about right...

Here is what I am looking at. I have been shooting the 162s for awhile.

140 Berger VLD Hunting
G1 - .51
G7 - .261

168 Berger VLD Hunting
G1 - .617
G7 - .316

162 Amax
G1 - .625
G7 - .307

168 VLD @ 2750fps
3000 DA
10mph
500yds 2.8 mils Elev .8 mils Wind
1000yds 8.3 mils Elev 1.7 mils Wind

140 VLD @ 3000fps
3000 DA
10mph
500yds 2.4 mils Elev .8 mils Wind
1000yds 7.5 mils Elev 2.0 mils Wind

162 Amax @ 2770fps
3000 DA
10mph
500yds 2.7 mils Elev .8 mils Wind
1000yds 8.3 mils Elev 1.8 mils Wind

I am not sure about the velocities on the VLDs but I am pretty sure I can get those. The 168s look good but not sure if anyone has any loads with them that shot good.

The 168 berger is by far a better bullet when u get ur depth right! ..My 7wsm is scary at 800yd 5-7" groups depending on my wind calls.. and i get around 3180fps

woobury outfitters in coshocton had 4 boxes of 162 amax, this morning, maybe they would ship em if you are not local

Now I dont feel so daft for having 1000 rounds of 162g A-max on the shelf of my bench this bullet is such a good performer in both my 7mags I never want to be without them.

anyone gonna try the Nosler Accubond LR instead of the Bergers? I'm thinking that's the direction I'm gonna go.........

To be honest I think that list is a fake check hornandy s website I cant see why they would be cutting production just cant see the figures in it for them

I was just in the Sportsman's Warehouse thinking I need to start shooting 7mm. There are all kinds of 7mm bullets and no .22 or .30 cal to be found. Very little 6.5mm as well. They might be all gone next week when the word gets out...

162 amax is a great bullet, and prob a very large part of the 7mm market, but its def not the only great bullet for the 7's,life goes on

1k aint gonna last long if you run the gun alot,can never have too many (;

When several sites have a lot of the bullets on that list listed as "Temporarily Unavailable," it adds a bit of credibility.

Nothing on Hornady's website about this. Searched for "temporary suspension" (the wording used on the letter) and came up with nothing. There is a big fat header on the front page that says "if the info you hear doesn't originate with Hornady Mfg, don't believe it".

While I had a 7/08 that shot thte 162s very good. Berger makes the best 7mm bullets on the market. For a big magnum a pointed 180 Hybrid is about impossible to beat. Accuracy, consistency, and raw b.c. are amazing.

Can you shoot a 162 crazy fast and make it look great on paper......Yes Will your barrel burn out in 700 rounds or so......Yes

For you short action guys the 168 Classic hunter or 168 VLD will impress anyone on the target.

The bullets are temporarily unavailable bacause and that exist have been bought up and despite hornandy's efforts to keep up. Why would they stop making bullets shen everything they make for the next 6 months is already bought

The why wouldn't they just be listed as "back ordered" like several other bullets they sell?

Ok ive had a lil time for this to sink in. This is TOTAL POO POO. The amax is the go to bullet for several cartridges ALOT of members on here use that shoot thousands of rounds. Id like to see the volume #'s of 75/105/162 /208 amax vs.ALL their other stuff combined. I can't see how this is a logical decision.add a line, hire more people, but dont chop off the hand that feeds ya. They produce an excellent product at a reasonable price. Its a shame to see them stub their toe like this. Its gonna piss alota people off who prob are not gonna forget it. Hopefully its a short term thing.

Secondly they're suspending almost all their amax yet they are still gonna run the beloved 140amax which happens to go in the CM ammo,so they can still do that changeover but not the other ones.my job sux and when times get tight we do alot of changeovers.we dont call customers and say hey were not runnin abuncha short runs for yall,we suck it up and getr done, so customers get what they need. Errrrrrr!! Ok i feel better,im done

I think we miss read the suspension notice. I think they are suspending taking orders until they can get caught up a little on their backlog. Just like a lot of suppliers have lomg ago ceased taking backorders because they have no idea whwn they would be more stock in.

I shoot VLDs and Accubonds, so at first I didn't care- but now I realize more people are going to switch to those.

I'm not sure you asked the right question, the document doesn't say they are "discontinuing the amax line". It says they are "temporarily suspending production" of various bullets and ammo, including "some" of the amax line.

Still could very well be complete BS though.

I'm thinking they suspended the 162 A-max's so they could focus on the production of the 162 BTHP's. So, you're not really F^cked, sex just isn't going to be as good for a while.

I just got off the phone with my friend and temporarily suspending production of some low volume bullets is correct. That's across the entire bullet product line not just Amax's. Those low volume bullets on back order have had the orders canceled, not the SKU# canceled just backorders. The reasoning is why setup for a run of 100K when another number has 5 million on order. Makes sense to me and it's being honest and upfront with your customers.

Sadly, the 162bthp is also on the suspend list.

That is why I titled the thread the way I did. The Horny 162s (both amax and bthp) are an ideal choice for many, many 7mm chamberings.

thrusty on the other thread in the reloading section claims he has spoken to Hornady, and they're saying the fax is FACTUAL, but was a "leak", and they'll be adding it to their website shortly.

As an aside, Hornady needs to look out for Hornady... So if this is what their management has determined is their best way forward, I can't fault them for that at all. It would be better to have the suspended bullets come back into the market in 6-12 months than for them to go out of business.

Makes sense, thanks for confirming.

After a little thought, the vast majority of shooters probably have no idea what an Amax is, or even what "BC" is. It doesn't seem like it here on the hide, but we do represent a niche market.

turbo54;2589101 As an aside said:
As I understand this it wasn't about economics, as in profit, it was about not giving false hope to customers that these low production bullets would be delivered anytime soon. Profit is a byproduct of that decision. Hornady has been expanding production capacity for years and can't keep up. They've built at least two additions since the last time I was there. Sierra has bullets in this category also. It's about the demands of the market place right now. The tooling for all these bullets is still there.

+1
This is the way it USE to be and the way we currently run our shop.
I'll say it again, i have a stash right now, but if I run out and have to switch bullets I won't be going back.

sent a contact form to Hornady over the weekend. Got an email back today apologizing for the suspension of production. 162 grain AMAX will not be produced until 2014 "at the soonest"

Went back and picked up what they had left. Lets start the bidding on one box at $231.95
