Ok so I've always used Butler Creek scope caps and I've never had an issue with them. Honestly the issue I'm having now isn't a big one just something I'd rather not have....

On my 56mm obj scope the BC Obj cap is a bit tough to open and close. Mainly because the plastic tweaks a bit on such a large surface and it doesn't work like its supposed to. It ends up taking a lot more force than they normally would on a smaller cap.

So I started looking for another solution. Looked like Tenebraex was one of the better options. However it looks like you fist need the TT adapter for S&B which is SB5600-AR and costs 29.99 then you need the actual cap SB5603-FCV which costs 39.99. These prices are from Mile High Shooting which was the only place I could really find stock on the two pieces I was thinking I needed.

Are people really spending 70 bucks for half a set of scope covers? What am I missing?

Looks like those are pretty much leupold only. Perhaps i'm wrong. I'm trying to get this for a S&B PMII 5-25x56.

The tenebraex covers do fold back all the way which is nice but they are not low profile.

good option for use on the end of one of their ard's

while the alumina's are made for leupold, i've seen them fit nightforce and acog 50mm but that wont help you at 56mm

Low profile isn't something that is all that much of an issue for me. I usually set my obj cap to flip off to the right so that I can use binoculars to look over the top of the scope to read wind flags. I also find that when using the laser range finder at longer ranges I need a rest and I like to rest the laser range finder on top of my scope and thus having the lens cap flag sticking straight up kills that too. Thus I deal with where the push off tabs end up in order to have it flip off to the right to allow me to use my auxiliary optics in the manner that works best for me.

well in that case they are more durable and secure than BC's

The Tenebraex covers are leaps and bounds tougher than BC covers. The only downside to them (at least on the Premiers I've had) is that you can't mount the scope quite as low. Even if you turn them to open to the side, they're still going to require some space.

I've given up on flip up caps. The BCs break, the Tenebrex (sp?) are stupid overpriced, the aluminas fit Leupold...

Just get a NF bikini and call it a day.

I certainly wish manufacturers would get their act together and standardize threads on both the eyepiece and objective the way camera manufacturers have.

The Leupold Alumina system is the best I've used, but is limited in application. I know that Leupold is often criticized for their failure to innovate or respond to shooters demands, but this is one area where they have been ahead of the other brands for about the past decade.

That's what I was trying to say

I have a few B&C objective covers that were difficult to open and snap closed.
I trimmed the rib that forms the snap in a few places around the male part of the cap (the part on the scope) leaving it full height at 1:30, 4:30, 7:30, and 10:30.
The cap then has to expand less to snap over the rib, so it opens and closes with less effort.

I like this idea. I think I'll try this.

At this point, that seems to be the best option for us NF owners. The fact that it's the best option is a source of considerable aggravation to me. A $1500-$2000 scope deserves better protection than a 50 cent piece of rubber.

No disagreement here.

Honestly the BCs would be fine if they'd use a quality material.

At $10 a pop, there's no flippin reason they can't afford the 2¢ extra, either.

Thought I read someplace recently though, there were going to be new, higher quality BCs on the market?

Ard - killflash

Hello...
I am sort of in the same boat here with a NF 5.5-22X56 NXS and I have just really NEVER understood why NF didn't do the same type of lense covers with their NXS scopes as they did with their BR models where the lense caps just screw neatly into each end of the scope with internal threads. I have to say I was REALLY disappointed when I got my first NXS scope because I thought it was such an awesome feature the way they did the lens covers on the BR models. But, since they didn't I would like to have a nice set of flip caps on my NXS scope but must admit something MUCH MORE important to me is having an Anti-Reflection Device/Killflash for my scope to avoid a nasty reflection from my front lense and giving away my position. And was wondering if anyone here has used the Tenebraex system with this same scope and if you can PLEASE tell me if I am correct below in the pieces I must buy to complete my setup:
1) I must first purchase this $100 Tenebraex Killflash ARD -
Tenebraex KillFlash ARD for 56mm Nightforce NXS 56NFC0 for sale!

2) #1 acts as my adapter for this $19 Tenebraex TT Flip Cover for my objective end -
Tenebraex Flip Cap for 56mm Objective SB5603-FCV for sale!

3) Finally, I need to purchase this $38 Tenebraex Eyepiece Flip Cover -
Tenebraex Eyepiece Flip Cover Nightforce And Bushnell for sale!

Whew...for a grand total of $157.00 plus shipping...OUCH!! Which don't get me wrong, I would much rather pay for quality parts ONE TIME...THE FIRST TIME than to pay for cheap ones several and then still having to get the expensive one, but, is it just me or does it seem like we are sometimes being price gouged the past few years due to the current state the firearms industry is in thanks to...well, I think everyone knows what is causing it but d@mn it sure does get old paying 3Xs, 5Xs, 20Xs & even 100Xs now for the same products than what it cost just a few years ago.

Anyway, if someone else has had experience with this same set-up and can tell me if I have everthing correct I would greatly appreciate it and better yet, if you know of just as good of a set-up for less money I would sure be interested in hearing about it as well.

Thanks much!

Got Tenebraex covers with my S&B 3-20X 50mm scope. Could not find any that would fit my S&B 5-25X 56mm scope. Addmount started making scope specific cover last year for $100 a pair, which are even better than Tenebraex. Check them out. Price reasonable for the property you're protecting! Other thread in the Scope Section with Testimonials on their use.

For a hunting rig you might only use once a year, I would just stick with BC's. For a range only rig, bikini covers work nice. For serious use on expensive optics, Jon Aadland's covers are the best thing going. The price might throw you off but understand these are not mass produced like BC's. IMO, it's like buying new tires for your truck or a new pair of work boots, I don't really like to spend money on those items but going "cheap" is not an option.

TOTALLY agree with you about the property you're protecting and the $2000+ optic is not even what I am worried about as much as the nut behind the weapon...LOL!! This is one of the main reasons I am needing an ARD/Killfash type setup on this rig as it my sniper rifle and I definitely don't want any reflections coming from my optics, well, anywhere for that matter. I did check out the Aadmount covers and they definitely look like top quality and I love seeing that "Made in the USA" on them but when I went to their website to see what they offered for my scope I didn't see any ARD/Killflash devices for use with his covers. Do you know if he offers them by any chance? Thanks for your help.

Thanks sawman556...do you happen to know if he offers an ARD/Killflash device for his caps? Thanks much!

I'm not sure, but if PM Jon, he can answer you question and, undoubtedly, help you out. His company is all about helping avid shooters! Covers can be easily painted too.

Thanks again to both of you for your time and your help. I will send Jon a PM and asking him if he has an ARD/Killflash he makes or if there is another one that will work with his caps...and my scope.

Have a great day and thanks again very much to you both!!
