Been out of the latest and greatest magazine loop and planning on picking up some full size 1911 mags. I have a new stainless Springfield TRP and looking to get a 1/2 dozen quality mags.

Trying to stay with 8 shot / stainless mags. Any opinions on the Chip McCormick , Wilson or "other" for the best mag currently available?

We just had a thread on this not too long ago. Consensus was Tripp. I use Tripp and CMC. Some have had issues with CMC's. I have had a CMC 10-rounder go south on me. I tried replacing the spring, cleaning it really well, etc. It fails to lock back from time to time. I have relegated it to practice at the range.

I've tried several. Tripp Research has been the only ones that have never failed me (knock wood). I've thought about getting some dedicated SWC magazines over the years but the Cobra Mags seem to work well enough. I don't own any but from what I hear Check Mate Ind. makes some pretty reliable magazines for the money.

If you want to get the "best" you may want to consider what type of bullets you're going to use. Not all feed lips are the same.

Used to carry a Kimber Ultra II, worked best with Wilson mags, so I had 3 for it. Felt like with a kid I wasnt getting enough time behind it to carry so I have switched to a "shudder" Glock. In my full size 1911s I use a variety of Kimber factory, Check Mate, Wilson, and a lot of unmarked and Colt marked USGI mags. Only problems I have with any of them was due to a dent just below the feedlips.

Wilson 47D for .45 and Tripp for 9mm. Have never had a problem with either. I really like the Tripp with my 9mm Baer. You read a lot of stories about 9mm 1911's not cycling well. I've never had any problems when I use the Tripp mags.

Tripp Cobra Mags any day over the Wilson's. Bought Wilson when I first got into 1911s because I read here and there they were the best. All 4 originally purchased 47Ds failed to lock slide back shortly after buying them. Replaced followers and springs with Tripp upgrade kits and now they are my range practice magazines and also lock the slide back every time. I now use Tripps for carry in both 7 and 8 round capacities. Depends on what gun I have with me.

I ended up with 6 Tripp Cobra Mags. These mags are built like a brick shit house. I have one Wilson 47 D mag surrounded by Cobras now.

I just got 3 Tripp Mags, wow these are incredible mags there really well built and super easy to load.

another bump for Tripp and WC ETM's, 47D's can't go wrong either. best to try out a few and see what the unit likes, then stock up.

My experience: Tripps will work WC (47Ds) might... as always YMMV!
