I have a Savage Mod 12 LRP in .260 Rem with a Badger 20moa base and currently using a borrowed scope. New Vortex Razor is on the way and was thinking of a QD mount not just to swap between rifles, but to be able to take glass in carry-on when flying. 35mm tube is probably gonna make it tough to find much of a selection, if any. Perhaps Vortex HD rings (look like Badger I have heard/read) and torque the same each time would suffice? Any recommendations of QD for this setup or rings that might be more repeatable when taken on/off probably no more than couple times a year will be greatly appreciated.

I would get the American Rifle Company M-10 QD-L it comes in 35 MM and I think their mounts offer a superior design. See the review on this site's home page. I run a set of their low rings now and plan to buy the M-10 for my next scope. Americanrifle.com

I would highly recommend you rethink your idea. QD won't go back to perfect zero anymore than a good set of torqued rings will. You are going to have to check your zero when remounting with any set up on a precision rifle. They will cost more and also be very high as they are made for flat top ARs. Mount that on a Badger base and plan on taping alot of padding on the comb to get a good sight picture.

Get a good set of rings and torque wrench. Vortex's precision rings are excellent. Also if you have a good case there is no need to take the optic off the rifle when flying. I have been flying to matches for almost 10 years now and never had any damage to the scope.

I agree with Rob01 on this. I was thinking same as you at one point about how nice it sounds to have a QD scope configuration. If you are serious about true precision long range shooting, this is NOT a good idea. It's tough enough to get a good zero on your rifle, scope, ammo and when you get everything sorted out you really don't want to be messing with it...unless you have the time to reconfirm and rezero each and everytime after you remove and reinstall.

Just my $.02. Best of luck with whatever direction you decide to go.

Thanks to all responders, good scoop. Leaning towards a set of American Rifle Company M-10s. In process of figuring out ring height. Don't care to get super close to barrel but this old neck dosen't like to crane any further than necessary to perch my cheek atop that stock pak either.

Huge Thanks to tnichols who got me started in this steel ringin business, lent me awesome Leupy while deciding on the Razor, range time and constant advice/info., and my shortage of disposable income... ;- )

The LT104 is what I've used mostly as well. I'm sure they are all equally good though. Plus they send you all kinds of freebies when you buy one.

Those mounts are made for ARs. They will be too high to get a good cheek weld on a bolt gun.

Rob01 is right on the money. Unless your head looks like this, they will be waaayyyy too high.

Ordered set of "Low 35 - 24" rings from American Rifle Co. Not the QD just plain rings. Thanks again for all the help. Will not be to high, at just under 1".

For anyone else who might search this as well and wants to see what an AR style mount on a bolt gun looks like here it is. Think that's a good idea?

^^^ This. And Ted is great to deal with. These are the only rings I run and I have their QD.. It is very very nice...

If you really what QD mounts you can do the ARMS 22L they are at the right height for a bolt rifle. I recommend getting a torque wrench and rings with a 1/2 nut.

Agreed. I run a LT120, which is a low ring height one piece mount, and though much more comfortable than the standard mounts, in retrospect I should have gone for a set of seekins or badgers. The only plus is I can swap my scope between three rifles with minimal zero shift, even between calibers.

Agreed, absolutely. I just was caught up in the throw lever tacticool setup at the time. I will be going to my torque wrench and seekins rings when I get my Razor for sure.
