Gunsmithing Remington 700 Bolt disassembly firing pin disassembly

Good thinkin' and Thank You! I'm going to a 700 armorer school next month, and I'm gonna cheese off the instructor........

Great video! He needs to stop leaning against that table though. Made it look like he had some nice boobs and I kept getting distracted.

His fifth post,.....It's up,It's good......a SCORE !!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Scott,Looks like I'll be doing mine on the week end.As soon as I find a "firing pin spring compression tool"....laying around some where.
Thanks again for sharing that tid-bit .

Went to look up the armorer school, discovered it was on July 17th..........Hate getting old. Didn't have any tubing around, so I made mine out of a cut-off 30 Carbine empty brass.

I have been told that you can use a cut off ball point pen barrel.

worth a shot.

Well, crap.

Gotta be one of those days..... Drove out the cocking piece pin, but the cocking piece will NOT separate from the firing pin. Right now, it is soaking in Kroil, just in case it is corroded together. Any other suggestions that doesn't involve explosives or a BFH?

Clamp the pin in a vise and spin the cocking piece off.

I had the same problem when I did it the first time... I did put it in a vice and clamped it just above the tapered part of the firing pin, wrapped the cocking piece with something to keep from scratching and it twisted right off. The spring helps, so put your hand over it when you do it.

Have fun!

PS If explosives are needed it this instance I think det cord would be best.

I cant get enough space to put the penny in... Im either stupid or I have a different 700 bolt than you...

You need to try a more expensive method, use a Dime.

Regards,

Steve

trouble is there isn't any clearance between the lever and the bolt shroud to stick anything in. The gun was purchased around Christmas. I wouldn't put it past Remington to try and eliminate the penny trick to make people buy their press... Could this be the case?

just hook that hook looking piece around a strong boot lace, pull and twist...

I got up early and was impatient and couldn't wait for lowes to open to get some tubing….so I wrapped the end of the firing pin with one width of black electric tape and it did the same thing as the bushing made with copper tubing from this video.

Initially I over wrapped the tape and the firing pin assembly would not go back in the bolt so I had to take two wraps off. Worked like a champ!!
