Zastva M76 v. Izhmash Tiger...Which? Why?

The Tiger is just a SVD sniper rifle with no flash hider, it does not use an AK gas system. the M76 is just an AK / PLS with longer barrel. Tiger's are also very rare, we had one at the shop and sold it for 4500 it was brand new and chambered in 7.62x54r. Tiger all the way just based on the fact that's is rare and still banned from import.

The M76 also has an adjustable gas system, and is usually in 8mm Mauser, while the SVD/Tiger are commonly in 7.62x54R. Both are very capable cartridges. Many people make the mistake of thinking of these rifles as "sniper" or "precision" rifles, when they are more correctly a designated marksman's rifle. Although often used in the role of a "sniper" rifle, the tactics for the rifle squad using these weapons is to extend the range of the unit from 300 meters or so (AK47/74) out to around 800 meters.

All the countries making these sorts of full sized cartridge case battle rifles (Yugoslavia, Russia, Romania, China, Iraq) know how to build precision rifles, so the use of these rifles is a choice, it is not because they don't know how do build anything with more accuracy.

I had one of the stamped receiver Romanian Romak rifles, and although I sent it off to Krebs custom to have them accurize it as much as possible, without decent 67.62x54R ammo, the best I could get out of it with ball ammo was about 2 MOA...about the same as shooting an M1A with ball ammo.

I would go with the M76, milled receiver that is not as lightened as a SVD and the 8mm ammo is more available without being corrosive. I had a romy PSL and a NDM 86 in 308 and with my reloads it shot under 1/2 MOA for only for 3 shots then the barrel heated up badly and groups opened up. Sold them both and got an armalite AR10 and couldn't be happier.

Let's discuss, guys. Thanks beforehand.-

Both are "decent" quality firearms that serve the roles that they were meant to fill at the time they began their service lives. However...in comparison to more modern semi-autos, especially quality large-frame AR-platform rifles, they are both generally ragged-ass pieces of scrap that will cost you more than they are worth (aside from perhaps as an avid collector, etc....especially the price the Tigrs are fetching these days).

Now, as between the two if those are the only options, I'd take the M76 for the reasons previously stated by Unknown and leadbullet.

If your willing to part with an arm and a leg, go with a Tiger
