Recently toured King's Mountain National Military Park: wondering if anyone makes a repro Ferguson Rifle? Appeared to be capable of remarkable rapid fire.

I think it was reputed to be 7-9 RPM in the era of muzzleloaders! In sufficient #s, it could have change the duration or course of the war.

The inventor got sick and died a short time after coming to the colonies .The soldiers abandoned the rifle after that for the more traditional musket they were used to .

Narragansett Arms of Indianapolis, IN used to make a replica Ferguson rifle. They sold back in the 1990's for around $3000. Not sure if this is still a good phone number but you could try it, (317) 917-0847, to my knowledge they do not have a website.

Other than that, The Rifle Shoppe, Inc The Rifle Shoppe, Inc. - British Ferguson Rifle (513) has all the parts you would need to build one, they may even build one for you.

As a foot note; the rifle you saw on display is a replica. The original one is in a vault at the park. It was stolen about 20 years ago and was later recovered when a idiot tried to sell it to a collector from the area. The collector called the Feds and they arrested him on the spot. The guy had no idea how rare it was and supposedly the only one left in exisistance.

Narragansett Arms went out of business many years ago. The Rifle Shoppe made the guns on contract for them and it was a limited run, although the Rifle Shoppe does sell parts that would allow you to construct a Ferguson of your own. The limited edition guns pop up for sale every once in a while, so search online and you may have some luck. $3-4k is is the usual range. If you are interested, there several books out there about the care and feeding of the Ferguson.

I've got one (repro) and it's an interesting gun to shoot. Kinda finicky about the lube you use on the breech screw, but a lot of fun. It's a lot handier than my long rifles because it's shorter and lighter, and just about as accurate. Unlike a long rifle, the Ferguson mounts a very long, flat, sword type socket bayonet.

Hope this helps.

A Company called The Rifle Shoppe makes a kit as ANG said.

I have a great gunsmith, Ed Hart, who can assemble it for you. About a year wait, but his work is very reasonable in terms of price. He did a Dickert PA rifle for me this past year.. I've been tempted on a Ferguson, because the Ferguson is a phenomenal design and the historical importance of Ferguson (who had Washington in his sights, but refused to fire) is amazing. I'd love to have one, repro or not!!!

Instead, I have Ed restoring a small London derringer for me right now and am in line to have him do a Wall Gun for me over the next year or so (also a Rifle Shoppe kit.)

Hope this helps... PM me if you want a personal introduction to Ed.

Cheers,

Sirhr
