but have a friend with the finest reloading equipment that can be found. He told me to get the stuff I need together and he would help get it done. My question is I cannot find any reloader 15. Is there another kind of powder that is equivalent? I have 500rds of long range brass, 500 168gr hornady bullets, I can get primers locally. But can't find reloader 15 anywhere. The reason I want RE15 is the guy I bought the rifle from also sent me a recipe that he worked up and says this is what works best. But at this point I would be willing to try anything.

There is a shooting club that has monthly matches and you have to shoot 66 rounds per match. I would like to start shooting with these guys. But shooting Gander Mountain bought ammo is getting expensive.

Any info would be awesome. thanks for your help.

You probably saw this in the other thread, but 2000MR works very well with 168AMAXs in my SPSS. Here's a 300yd target with both 2000MR and CFE.

With 168 A-maxes and 44.0 gr Varget, I get half minute accuracy from my DPMS Lr-308 semi.

Oh, yeah, Varget works.

And I run basic reloading gear - Hornady, Lee, RCBS.

If I didnt mind wasting some bullets, primers & powder id load that up show you how bad varget shoots for me. Shouldve saved that target from last year, measured like over 3" at 100yds. And then RE15 shoots like this at 300yds. Yeah, I tried 42, 43 & 43.5grs also, to no avail.

Newsflash: Not everything that happens "for you" is universally true. Variables (rifle, shooter, load / bullet / powder / primer, etc) have this annoying tendency to "vary."

Like I mentioned in other posts, I only diss Varget because it wont shoot in either of my 308s. A different lot number may shoot better. In my 708 under 150NBTs, 39.5grs Varget shoots in the 4s(5 shots) @100yds.

I've used Varget in my 308 semi with 168SMK's and A-maxes, 223 semi with 68 / 69 gr SMK's and Amaxes, even in my 45-70 TD Springfield. All with very good results. Its the magic pixie dust of gun powders.

At those increments, you probably passed right over the accuracy point.

How much H4895 you put in a cartridge using as bullet a Hornady A-max 168 gr for. A .308 to shoot decent 500 yds? Anyone with some experience please help.

I have a Savage 10FP 308 that loves 44.5gr Varget under 168s. No signs of stress on the brass or primer and runs around 2780fps. Of course YMMV.

Maybe, but I doubt it, when you have 4 loads I tried, 42, 43, 43.5 & 44grs(which is Hornadys max I believe) and they all look like I fired buckshot at the target a few tenths and here and there wont make any difference. There's a reason Sierra has their accuracy load with 42grs RE15 under the 168MK, CUZ it farging works.
