I currently have a ss 16x mil/mil on a Savage 12 .243. I do not shoot at long ranges yet as my factory barrel will not handle the heavy bullets. It is extremely accurate with the 70gr ballistic tip. I have a chance to upgrade to the falcon 5-25x56. I don't really need the extra power, but the variable power would certainly make the closer hunting shoots easier.

My question is is the falcon an upgrade from what I have on it? If the glass and durability is not the quality of the ss, I am not sure that I want to spend the extra $ on the new scope.

Thx, Steve

The Falcon is a really decent scope for the price and I understand your desire for a variable for hunting, but a 5x low end is a bit high for hunting also.
I have neveer used the 5-25, I have a 4-14 and the glass is quite good and I have used it on a light .308 with hundreds of rounds through it with no problems.

If budget is tight and you would like a FFP variable, look at the Primary Arms 4-14.
Probably made in the very same factory as the Falcon, but a stateside company so warranty will be a little easier to deal with.
Reticle choices are not as nice as the Falcon, but cost is lower and the power range more suitable to your needs.
