Is it just me or is it really really hard to get the bullet to touch the lands using the .223 modified case and hornady OAL gauge? Damn, i really got to push hard on the rod just so the bullet can be knocked back off the lands for a consistent reading...... I never need to push this hard with my .308 modified case.

    Both are the AR platform.

Did you use the generic one hornady makes or did you have them custom build a case you fired from your gun? I talked with them today about having them make some for my Grendel. I am thinking of having one custom made for every rifle I have.

There's someone here making cases for 6.5x47 who might be able to help with .223. Might try search for "6.5x47 modified case" and see if assist possible. Good comments about his execution of same.

Search for ".308mk4 " he's the guy doing the 6.5x47 cases.
I bought one and it's as well done as the Factory cases.

Hornady did custom cases for me years back for my .280 AI and .338-06. Sent them a pair of fired cases for each and they sent me back the modified cases for IIRC $15.

Just pm me with what you want. I have the 6.5x47's ready to go. Anything else I need a fired case. I ask that you send two of each The second is just in case.... Nine times out of ten it will be sent back unmolested.

I can do .308 win , .223 rem , 30-06 sping. Without you sending fired cases. I have fl sizers and the ability to expand the necks properly. Also , when sending cases , it's a lot cheaper to get padded envelopes at Walmart.

I just load my ammo for my AR pattern rifles to mag length...an AR is useless to me if I can't load the ammo into magazines. If I want the fattest part of the ogive closer to the lands I trim the meplat. My OAL tool is a stoney point which Hornady bought out and re-branded but both the .223 and .308 require the same effort
