Kicking Ass Somewhere
I have been gathering parts for a Savage 300 Winmag build but getting a barrel is taking too long so I was looking at MH website and seen the 5R's they are selling. Now I am thinking about selling off the parts I have gathered and just getting one of these 700 5R's. Any experience with them and how do they differ from the regular 700 tactical s aside from the 5 grooved rifling and the aluminum bedded stock. Any experiences and knowledge to share would be appreciated.

There are two models available, which one should I choose and why.

Stainless, threaded barrel 24 inch

I had a 308 5r and loved it. I like the stainless one as I like the HS stock better than the B&C. I would suggest it in a heartbeat.

My brother has one in 308. It shoots well. I think the 5r rifling is all hype. I have a cz in 308 and it shoots just as well. I have to say though the stock on the 5r is nice but if you get it put a nice trigger in it and glass bed it.

Go with the 26" 5R. These rifles are very accurate out of the box. Ask milehigh if they can fit a muzzle brake on the end. A couple of nice upgrades for this rifle are a Timney trigger and a AICS 2.0 chassis.

I have one that I put a break and Jewell trigger on. I shoot the 215 hybrids at 2940 fps and they will shoot VERY well out to 1200 yards. As a matter of fact , it is pretty much as accurate as my GAPs at 1,000 yards....
I also had a 700 Police. The 5r shoots faster with the same charge weights and will basically shoot anything I put threw it.
Ismh that it really benefits you to hand load for this rifle... As like all Remington's , the throats pretty long..
Overall ... One of my favorites to shoot ELR

I don't think the barrel on the bottom link is carbon steel. I do believe they are stainless and Cerakoted black. You may want to check with them to be sure.

I think the barrel on the lower might be same as on my .300wm tactical long range. Fluted, stainless though mine has their black trinite(sic) coating. It has had some good groups and some bad. The coating is harder than woodpecker teeth but seeing the other barrel makes me think I made a mistake.

I had the 40x externally adjustable trigger which I pulled for a Jewell. So I bought it for the trigger and barrel and I am a little disappointed in both. The barrel is about half gone after two months of shooting so I consider it a 'trainer model'.

He means the half the barrel life is eat up. I put 2500 rounds threw my 700 P and it was still shooting decent.

Yes, I have about 600 rounds thru the barrel. I expect it to give decent service until maybe 1500.
