I am mounting a 4-16 X 50 MM 30mm Vortex PST on a .308 Savage 10FP. It came with a EWG base and I may use that or a Ken Farrell 20 moa base. I have always liked Burris signature Z rings and I plan on using them. I cannot decide on which size to use. I like my scopes mounted as low as possible and I think the bell will clear with the taller base and a medium ring, but if I mount it forward enough I might have an issue with the power selector hitting the base. The 30mm rings are lower than my 1" sig z rings. I read the article on here about selecting ring heights, but I would like some opinions.

Thanks!

Well, since you are looking for opinions... I can't stand the Burris rings. I would leave the EGW base in place, and get some Seekins 30MM Lows. It will fit like a glove with the 50MM obj, and you will appreciate NOT having to lap the rings. However, should you decide to mount the Burris stuff, lows should work there too.

Totally agree. Cough up a few extra bucks for some Vortex 30mm rings. MUCH BETTER. Lows should work just fine.

I have the Burris signature rings on a couple rifles and have never had a problem with them. You can also get some cant with the inserts if you like. Lows should work, but you can always measure to make sure. Oh, and z71rat, I'm not sure if you have ever used these rings that you "can't stand" but there is no need to lap the plastic inserts.

I have a total dislike for the Burris stuff. I have tried a few different styles from them, and to be completely candid... they suck. He asked for an opinion, so I gave him mine. Should you happen to like them?? I really couldn't care any less. I don't use plastic insert rings anymore... period. They are not what I would call. reliable. If you are going to really "use" the equipment, I don't trust anything plastic. And yes, as far as Burris stuff goes... "can't stand" is as true a statement that I can make.
